Location: USS Galileo: Deck 4 - Medical Lab
Timeline: MD02 - 0400

ON:

Allyndra sat back in the chair humming a tune to herself as she watched the monitor in front of her. It showed, greatly magnified the dance of her 'scissors' as they inserted bits of material into a matrix. This had been the easier part of getting them to work. The reading of an inorganic template had been much harder. Still it was fascinating to watch and she leaned over to touch a control introducing another molecule to cause a change in the 'scissors' which then began to change their assembly.

This is what she loved about these early mornings. There was virtually no activity right now and her attention could be elsewhere. She never minded trying to diagnose and help heal but there was a curiosity factor that itched in the back of her mind.

Alexion Wylde's own thoughts about Gamma tended towards the opposite. For him, the quietness of Gamma left him feeling somewhat at a loose end, having always been more of a hands on doctor and surgeon. Still, someone had to do it though, he knew he'd be called in if they need him for surgery over the other shifts, and it wasn't as if it disrupted his sleep pattern. His son didn't seem to mind it either, which was also a plus. And things hadn't exactly been quiet the last few days, so right now? It was good.

The patients from Venture were stabalised by now and the triage and emergency treatment was behind them. Now, all they could do was let them heal, let the medication work and keep up the rounds. Alexion dried his hands off as he walked, musing on it.

He stretched out as he walked through the quiet room. He had thought about introducing music to stop the eeriness, but he doubted it would be appreciated by others. For some reason, he concentrated better with music or talking around him than silence.

"Want a coffee?" Alexion asked as he passed the busy woman who was too involved in work to stop and get some for herself. Besides, he fancied one himself now that everything had quieted down. He also fancied some smoke, but he'd have to wait another few hours yet.

Allyndra was the type that when she got involved she lost herself in whatever it was and the rest of the world no longer existed. The 'dance' was fascinating and when a voice said: 'want a coffee', she jumped, jerking back to reality.

Blinking in an exaggerated way which was normal for her species as it helped refocus the eyes she looked up. "I'm sorry, I did not know anyone was around. Coffee?" she questioned and then decided it sounded good.

"That sounds fine." Allyndra stood up and then realizing she did not know this person said, "I am sorry, I am fairly new myself and have not gotten a chance to meet everyone." She was never sure about touching others so she refrained for now and just made a little dip of the head, "Allyndra, I am the Assistant Chief Medical Officer."

Alexion chuckled gently, tipping his head to mirror her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to fright you," he said softly. "WO Alexion Wylde. Doctor, it's nice to meet you," he flashed a smiled before moving to the replicator. He came back to sit on the side of a long counter, offering one of the steaming cups of coffee over. "It's got a bitter taste, but strangely addictive. And I find it good for long nights. It seems like you could do with the concentration fuel...?" he nodded towards the work she'd been doing, curious.

Allyndra took the coffee and blew on it before sipping. It was interesting but to her it needed a lot more sugar. Well, she would make do. She put the cup back down. "Interesting. Oh a minor research project, one reason I took gamma shift, gives me time to concentrate. So what can I do for you this ev...well this early morning?"

"Nothing at the moment. Things seem to have calmed," Alexion offered a small, tired smile at that, shaking his head. "I'm on Gamma too. Have another few hours to go yet, but at least the blood has settled. But I haven't met enough of the medical staff yet," he chuckled at that, shaking his eyes, a sparkle in his eyes.

Allyndra blinked in that slow way as things dawned on her. "Your not a patient are you?"

"Not that I know of," Alexion chuckled, sitting back on the counter and taking a large mouthful of the hot coffee before sighing with the relief of it. "Unless I have some odd psychological condition that makes me think I'm a doctor. No. I work here, but I've not been here long. I was on Venture."

"Oh! Well welcome, we can always use more hands in here. I can not fathom how it always seems that no matter if one is just traversing space with nothing going on that people seem to injure themselves. I suppose it is the nature of curiosity." Allyndra commented and then realized she had not introduced herself.

"Now where are my manners, the Guild Mother would have my hide for that. I am Allyndra illm Warraquim." She hated titles and just said, "a humble doc in this department."

Alexion grinned, touching his forehead before motioning to her in greeting. "All-yn-dra illm War-ra-quim..." he repeated slowly, to get his head and tongue around the unusual name. "Did I say that right?"

She smiled, "Close. Ahh-lee-in-derrrr-ah eee-llleemmm War-ahhh-kiqmmm." Allyndra left out most of the musical intonation. She was not sure why she said the later though, "Allyndra means the morning wind off the ocean."
She felt a touch of heat in her cheeks over that.

"Not that that is important," she said and could not remember if he said his name. "And you or has my mind fogged from the night?"

"Alexion Wylde," he said softly with a small smile, shaking his head slowly with a soft chuckle. "And I think the meaning of a name is everything. A name is all we have sometimes, when everything else disappears or is taken."

Allyndra felt a shock as he said: 'is taken', that came way too close to her hearts. "Pleased Alexion," she said. "I hope you do not mind the informality, I do adhere when necessary but find otherwise it gets in the way of people being people."

"No, it's fine," he waved a hand dismissively at the idea of being offended by informality. "I've served for a while, but really I feel more like a doctor than a rank. Whether that's good or bad, I'm not sure."

Allyndra smiled at that remark. It struck close to home, speaking of which, she was reminded of her strain of not being there but so much had passed it was almost as if it was this place in her mind.

"It does become part of oneself does it not?" She laughed lightly. "Shall I show you around then?"

"Yes," he hopped up onto his feet, sipping his coffee with a content sigh. It was a moment of peace and quiet. He had a feeling it was wise to embrace it. "Show me the bits you like. As it is said."

Allyndra tilted her head to one side to indicate a direction. "My favourite of course is the Medical Lab, right this way." She waved a hand down a short corridor to the left off the back of the main sickbay. "Do you do research as well?"

"I've done some, but not much," Alexion shook his head slowly, frowning as he thought on it. Kohl had asked him about it too, and he wondered why he didn't do more. "Most of my interest in research is around mental abilities in work with physical medicine. I don't think it's well received. Maybe I don't write well. Or maybe it's not seen as particularly relevant or useful with a varied culture based with non psionic powers such as humans."

Allyndra was slightly taken aback by the statement. "That sounds very interesting. I must admit that Akkadians do not have much psionic ability, but still it sounds fascinating." She stopped and pursed her lips thinking for a moment.

"Please do not think of me as too forward but could I interest you in some breakfast? I would be most interested to hear more about your ideas." She smiled shyly. "A deserted sickbay corridor seems so impersonal."

Alexion laughed softly at that, looking around as he set his hands on his hips. "I think that's a great idea. Besides, we should eat now while everything's quiet again," he motioned politely with his hand for her to walk first. "So what is your area of research?"

"I am researching on the use of DNA motifs to control and construct various nanotechnological devices.. So far, construction has been easy, getting the DNA motifs to respond to changes in the templates has proven to be more difficult. However," Allyndra stepped out the back of sickbay and into the corridor. "You first, shall we?"

Alexion flashed a smile to her as he moved through, walking comfortably at the nymph-esque doctor's side. Nano-technology was something he wasn't strong on, but he had feeling that he was about to get a crash course.
