ON:

Evelyn made no attempt to open her eyes. Her head hurt too much. Her body hurt too much. It seemed that everything hurt too much. Slowly, her senses started to send reports back to his brain. There were bruises and cuts and scrapes and maybe some breaks. She kept her eyes closed, not because she didn't want to see where she was, but she thought it would hurt too much to open them. Without forethought her brain decided to take inventory. She wiggled her toes and was pleased to see they worked. Her left foot rolled outward and everything felt as it should. When she tried the same thing with the right leg her knee sent back signals of sharp pain. She couldn't tell the extent of the injury but nothing felt broken. Her torso ached, but it was nothing compared to the pain she suddenly noticed in her arm and face.

Evelyn tried to open her eyes, but nothing happened. It was if her eyelids were glued shut. She tried again, and with a little more effort she was able to get her left one open a sliver. It felt as if something was weighing down her eyelids. She ignored the pain on the side of her head and thought back to what happened, rewinding time in her head.

El-Auria, Zerx, Nexus, Blue flame.

Using the last ounce of strength she managed to open the other eye. It was that instance she noticed she was sitting up against a wall, her restraints removed. She tried pushing herself up, but didn't get far. Eve let out a small gasp. It felt as if she had been stabbed. She had no idea how long she has been out. She looked down at her uniform and a breathed a sigh of relief seeing that it was intact. Evelyn tried to swallow but her mouth was completely dry.

Then, as if a switch had been flipped on, the pain started. It was both specific and everywhere at the same time. As if her brain was stuck in a causality loop of agony moving from one area to the next and then back again, moving faster and faster. She started to moan and after a good five seconds she stopped herself. She wasn't going to give Zerx any satisfaction.

As she closed her eyes again to reflect it was then she felt what feared her the most....nothing. Since she was a little girl there was always a faint voice, an echo, guiding her through life. Now it's gone, that feeling was absent. She couldn't see time anymore. Her soul was ripped through her body by the blue flame.

"All I wanted was to come home...." she thought to herself. This time she allowed herself to grieve.

Zerx looked over the findings and was disappointed. They performed the experiment on the El-Aurian five different times with five different variance frequencies and still the results were negative. The only highlight was the fact that woman won't survive. His door chimed focusing his attention, "Come in." what you want?

A dark haired male entered the room staring down at Zerx from where he stood, "The Orion wants to know when he and his associates will receive their payment."

"Damn mercenaries, always asking for their payment." Zerx skimmed through the PADD and read the latest scan of the El-Aurian and his eyes widen, "Damn it!" He shouted throwing the padd across his office.

Nico knew exactly what he meant. "The Nexus's remnants were completely eradicated from the subject's cells. She's been purified."

"Yeah well what good would a purified El-Aurian do me now?" Zerx retorted shaking his head with disbelief, "The only benefit I have now is her death."

"There is one last thing you should know." Nico asked his voice filled with disdain. "Starfleet has two vessels studying a nearby star system a few parsecs from here. One of those ships is hers."

Zerx glared, "Science ships, big deal."

"Yes one is a Nova-Class science vessel but the second is a Galaxy-class starship." Nico reiterated. "You have to send her back."

"What?!" Zerx shouted with disbelief. "I'll do no such thing."

Nico scoffed at Zerx, "I don't intend to spend the rest of my life in a Federation penal colony. I programmed the course back to her ship in the shuttle."

Zerx's eyes widen, "Who the hell do you think you are?! I don't take orders from you!"

Nico pressed the device on his wrists and then the Orion and Androssi tough guys walked in behind him. "No but they do."

Zerx's eyes widen, "You really think you're going to get your latinum by mutinying against me?" He looked at the Orion, "Whatever he offered I'll double it."

Nico shook his head, "No you can't and we really don't have time for this anymore." He reached behind his back for his phaser, and without hesitation unleashed a golden beam that sliced through Zerx's chest. As the Vestian collapsed onto the floor, Nico turned to his two comrades. "The safe with all the payment is behind that panel, you may need his hand for the security feature. Once you finished the ship is yours."

The Orion quickly moved in the direction of the safe and the Androssi was about to follow when he stopped and asked, "What about Starfleet?" he asked.

"As part of the agreement I'll handle it." Nico replied.
