First Officer's Personal Log,

The testing of our systems today has gone well, my hopes are certainly lifted that the Galileo will leave Earth on time and as scheduled. There are of course, a few minor bugs that will have to be worked out, but after spending some time in Engineering with Chief Quinn today, I feel that he and his engineering team will get them ironed out before we reach our destination.

So far the crew seem to be gelling together nicely, I haven't had to step in and perform the disciplinary duties attached to the role of First Officer as of yet, and I'm hoping that it won't be necessary for me to have to do so, confining any officer or crew member to the brig or to their quarters in my opinion, has a distinctly negative effect on ship-wide morale.

On a personal note, I have found myself a new sparring partner aboard this vessel, our chief science officer. I made the mistake of assuming that her being female would give me an advantage in strength, but it turns out she is more than sufficiently trained to use her smaller frame to her advantage - I have requested a rematch, and I hope that I shall get the chance to regain my footing in our competition!

I can't help but feel a little nervous as I prepare to depart, after all, this is my first posting as XO, and I am not yet entirely sure what I should expect. The Captain has been more than helpful in terms of getting me settled in, and I feel already that I know this ship like the back of my hand. Slowly, I think I can find myself coming to terms with being assigned to a small science vessel, in fact after my thrashing in the sparring match this afternoon, I can safely say that size isn't everything, and a small ship doesn't necessarily make out for an undistinguished crew.

We leave at midnight tonight, and if all goes well, my next log entry should hopefully take place back in the cold depths of space, I'm anxious to get back up there and start doing my duty.

End log.
