The few that have been to Akkadia always marvel at the rings that encircle the planet. I love them also. Every night they are like a titanic silver rainbow that stretches from horizon to horizon. We call them the Queen of Night's Promise. Oh there is a silly little child's tale about how they came to be, but that is not the real story behind them.

At one point, they were part of a moon that encircled the world, not unlike the one around Earth. However, those who would come to be called the A'ksu saw that we, as a culture, were descending into chaos.

Thus, they destroyed the moon. They made it fall. The destruction from what I've managed to parse was tremendous. Waves rose and drowned the lands, the polar caps melted but out of the chaos the A'ksu that survived reorganized the rest of the survivors. They created the great Houses such that each would be dependent upon the other.

All of the technology was put away, but the A'ksu changed us. They modified us. They gave us our wings and they gave us our remarkable regenerative abilities. For to put the technology away meant all of it, and they couldn't, in their ethics, deny us what medical we had. They knew that the islands would be far apart.

Not much is known even on Akkadia of the distant past, but there it is. It is one reason I and others have never argued for formal admission into the Federation, for we are modified beings. A secret then, and a secret now. Let it remain so.
