"Computer begin engineering duty log, Chief Naime.

"I wish it to be entered onto the record the state in which I have found this department and ship. I boarded Galileo at the Regula One starbase as part of the disbanding and dispersion of USS Trial's crew. I had requested a different position but was told that the engineering department aboard Galileo was understaffed and in need of experienced engineers and so I was assigned here.

"To say that the department is understaffed was undoubtedly an understatement. Upon arriving I met with the two petty officers that formed the engineering team. Petty Officers Hollenday and Andrews deserve recognition for the work they have done in maintaining the ship. Thankfully both are competent with Hollenday having dry dock experience they understand the ship and have kept it in decent order despite the circumstances.

"One of the first concerns raised to me by the team was the haste with which the ship was deployed. Galileo is new out of the shipyards and has had little time to be put through her paces. Now on a mission far from the possibility of extensive repairs or overhauls my team is worried that flaws or faults may have made it so far undetected. Should there be any critical failures of systems there is little chance we could make it back to a friendly shipyard. Out here we are on our own.

"Further worries have been raised about the post-battle repairs. My first orders when coming on the ship have been a thorough reexamination of the damage sustained. Myself and Petty Officer Inant have been conduction reviews of the structural integrity of the hull and though we have found nothing so far the survey is not yet complete.

"I am worried. I want it stated on the record that I am worried. This ship is a high tech wonder and its engineers have shown themselves to be skilled and resourceful however, perhaps from lack of representation among the senior staff, I feel the concerns of engineering have gone ignored up to this point. I will be making a full report of the situation to Captain Tarin.

"Eng Log."
