Captain's Log, Stardate 69347.3

"Galileo is approaching Cold Station 31. We'll be on station within the hour. While we wait for the inevitable, I find myself contemplating the station's secrets. Its personnel are an enigma - their personnel files were scrubbed of everything except the most basic background information. I can't even start to speculate about their research and it's impossible to not hypothesize about what's happened to them. What will our away teams find when they arrive? A Vulcan friend once lectured me about the 'propensity of Human nature to seek conjecture'. I'm starting to think there's some truth in those words.

"The crew handled their briefings well. I can't admit it to them, but they aren't as undisciplined as my first impression led me to believe. Most appear wary about this mission and I sympathize with them. So am I. It's not that I don't trust Starfleet's research directives or methodology, but the margin for error out here is slim. We're far away from the Federation's logistical chains in this region of space. If something goes wrong? It'll be a long time before any distress call can be responded to.

"Our 'friend' in space hasn't reappeared on sensors in the last 48 hours. It should feel like a relief but it doesn't. Whatever it is, is still out there...I can feel it. Watching. Observing. Scheming. I don't like operating like this - alone with no task group support in a ship the size of a large water yacht. I wish Regula I had loaded us with more quantum torpedoes. Maybe some antimatter mines too.

"We'll find out soon enough what's happening out here. Then after this, a vacation to Earth is in order.

"End log."
