Kiri Cho's Letters Home 01

Posted on 21 Oct 2012 @ 7:43pm by Lieutenant Kiri Cho

312 words; about a 2 minute read

"Hello Sarah," Kiri's voice was sharp, despite trying to keep herself calm she was short of breath, "I'm your sister Kiri." It was uncomfortable, trying to talk to a computer screen rather than a person. There wasn't even someone on the other side to give a reaction, here words were even more silted than normal. "I'm sorry I haven't been able to send you a message sooner, things on the ship been rather busy. I'm sorry I can't explain more right now but I'm sure I can tell you the story soon." The top secret nature of their mission meant that public knowledge was going to be extremely limited, Kiri couldn't tell anyone what she knew.

"I am on the planet Vega IX in the Vega system, not that far away from Earth. I think there will be a chance to leave the ship, if there is anything you would like then let me know. I can try and find it." While she had made notes of what to talk about they all seemed useless now, "How are you finding home? If there is anything you would like to ask me you can," Asking a stranger about something even if they were now her sister seemed strange.

It was back to talking about herself, "I didn't explain, I told mum but I've been promoted now, in position. I am Assistant Chief Science Officer, the second in charge of my department. Doing all the sciences based things, like in school. I've also made some nice friends, I hope we can be." Falling silent Kiri wished there was more to say, her mind was blank though. "I will have time to talk to you soon, so if you let me know when you are free, we can have a real conversation. I'm sure everything at home is good, take care and look after yourself."
