[[2385: NIRAM CLAN CEREMONIAL GROUNDS, VULCAN]]

"T'Nira is a most fascinating woman." T'Yron ma'at'Niram picked up her son, and swept her gaze over her adoptive brother-in-law. The dark featured man merely nodded in return. There could be no denying it, after all, he had publicly declared in front of everyone his intent to marry the half-Betazoid despite the obvious quality of his statement.

T'Yron suppressed her amusement. He was every bit as stubborn and easily moved as her own husband, yet prone to a particularly quirky sense of embellishment when it came to the things he cared about. "You have both been telsu for many years. Was there truly a purpose to that sudden declaration?"

Sekhet nearly glowered. "Tanak should have known his place."

"Are you certain it is wise..." T'Yron began, but was stopped by a gentle hand to her shoulder. Without turning, she knew who it was. Junior Ambassador Liyar had arrived home earlier than expected. The Council session had only just adjourned, she supposed it was reasonable he would seek his cousin out.

She rose her fingers to meet his. "My husband. I was just --"

"Undermining young Sekhet's ambitions, I see." Liyar's tone was cordial.

"I was not --"

"She was," Sekhet confirmed archly. "Tanak indicated his ulterior motives at a time when my control was tenuous." Tenuous was not the beginning of it. Sekhet had been positively infuriated at Tanak's attempt to enter T'Nira's mind. "It was logical to assert my claim, lest he consider it open for inquiry."

"Open for inquiry." Liyar repeated the phrase almost dryly.

"Affirmative. He is fortunate I felt no pressing need to inform the authorities." He didn't look the least bit ashamed.

"My sa-kai. You appear to be taken with your studies of physical medicine. I am told you possess what the Terrans state is good bed-side manner. Attempt not to enamor yourself of their failings, Sekhet. Your control remains tenuous."

"It is logical to cultivate a positive bed-side manner, sa-kai. Many alien species require positive reinforcement as psychological treatment. They wither without it. Studies of Terran children show that depriving them of touch will kill them." He had dug his heels in. It was always so in his arguments of logic, that often Liyar wondered if he were not more suited to the tu'Jarok caste.

"Remember your roots, sa-kai. You undertook the disciplines for a reason. This situation with Tanak has only elucidated it further. Should such assertions occur in your Starfleet, you would be dishonorably discharged. They may preach IDIC, but not to the extent of allowing such behavior to go without censure. They are not Vulcans, Sekhet."

The Healer's eyes narrowed imperceptibly, but he straightened and nodded. "Yes, sa-kai." When he actually slowed down and tempered his rage, he began to truly consider the merits of what Liyar was saying. He still didn't approve, but his voice was much more even when he next spoke. "I have labored long to achieve satisfactory Control, sa-kai. I am capable of remaining true to myself without treating my patients in a manner they would perceive as cruel."

"Let us hope you are correct, Sekhet." Liyar bowed his head and met his wife's fingers again before taking their son in his arm.
