[ON]

Even though he was now off-duty, SWO Sergei Petrov was still in his pressed uniform. A few days ago, Lieutenant Stone had suggested that he meet with CWO Kiwosk about the tactical response team that he was organising. Honoured by his words, Petrov had seriously considered the offer to begin training and decided that, yes, he would do it. Walking into the security offices on deck three, he nodded to the man sitting at the desk. "I'm looking for Chief Warrant Officer Cyrus Kiwosk, sir," he said formally, but with the casual appreciate that enlisted men held for each other.

The ex-marine looked up from his PADD and studied the Staff Warrant. "You're looking right at him. How can I help you mister..." He held the name, before remembering Stone's memo. "Petrov...Staff Warrant Officer Sergei Petrov. Lieutenant Stone said you might be showing up sooner or later." He smiled and gestured for the man to sit in the nearby chair. "Please, take a load off, no need to be overly formal here. How can I assist you mister Petrov."

"That's me," Petrov nodded, shaking Kiwosk's hand. "Lieutenant Stone recommended I see you about joining the tactical response team I believe you're setting up." He settled into the chair in front of the man's desk. Petrov had always considered himself a tough man, but next to Kiwosk, well, he knew that he wouldn't want to catch himself on the wrong side of his fist. "Before I make any commitments, I'd like to know what it's all about. I am, after all, a supervisory science officer on alpha shift with many responsibilities."

Cyrus nodded. "Of course. The TRT is being designed to be considered an Emergency response team that would respond to a wide variety of threats that would be normally be considered above regular Security or fall into that awkward 'gray' zone that requires individuals from several different departments in order to complete an objective. " He set the PADD he was holding on the desk and continued. "While most times taking standard people for the departments would be sufficient, on board or off board, sometimes...mainly in the heat of a firefight or a high stress situation, the Captain, XO and my boss Lieutenant Stone, have considered it necessary that something above and beyond the regular duty of a Starfleet Officer may be required in those kinds of situations. " He paused to catch his breathe before continuing. "Given what has happened recently, I'm not inclined to disagree."

Petrov took all of that in with a few nods at the appropriate times. It wasn't necessary to take notes; he would remember it all without any problems. "Understood. I agree." He rubbed his chin. "What time would the training take place? And what sort of training would be involved?"

"Good questions. The first one is still up in the air until I have finished speaking with all the possible recruits. " He smiled. "The second question is a little easier to explain. We will be conducting various training procedures, mainly stress and combat trials, but it will also contain cross training on basic departments..." He paused as he gathered his thoughts, his hands now clasped in front of him. "For example, it is quite possible that you will all be trained in combat first aid, on the off chance that the TRT responds to an immediate medical emergency where we can't get the complete medical staff in right away due to....say a hostile attack. " He shrugged.

"It's just an example of what could happen or what the TRT would be called in for, but the primary goal is a First responders and combat team that will pave the way for the professionals once things are clear. It'll also help defend other departments from hostilities, should they break out on board the ship. The more people that understand the proper way of tactics and weapon procedures, the safer everyone will feel."

Nodding, it all made sense to him. "Yes," Petrov said, "But what kind of training will we doing? Weapons? Martial arts? I want to know what to expect will be part of my regimen. Will this be a regular thing in addition to my science duties?"

"We will get together roughly once every seven ship days. We'll go over advanced combat, which includes various firearms and martial arts, but also damage control, coping with stress, and squad based maneuvers and tactics.

"As for your regular duties, you will be a regular member of your department with the exception of the one training day and whenever the TRT is called on."

"Understood," Petrov frowned, thinking to himself whether this would work for him. "I will have to check with Lieutenant Panne about this before I make any commitments. I will inform you of her decision as soon as I have it." He shifted in his seat. "Stone mentioned phaser accuracy of at least ninety percent; how will this be judged, so I can prepare myself?"

"It'll be one test with stationary and moving targets, grades will be awarded on accuracy and beading." It was Cyrus's turn to frown. "I was about to come to that. I assume Lieutenant Panne hasn't been informed of your coming to see me then?" He brought his clasped hands underneath his chin. "I had been meaning to go see her myself, but I've been juggling this along with my other duties on board. Would you mind informing her of not only your interest, but also that I would like to schedule a meeting with her in the near future." He studied Petrov carefully. "I'm under the firm belief that if I'm requesting personnel from other departments, then I should at the very least talk to them person to person."

"Consider it done," Petrov nodded. "I will let her know as soon as we are finished here, sir." Kiwosk seemed like another well-rounded and trustworthy man in the ship's small but apparently effective security department.

"Much obliged, but Warrant...I'm no sir, I'm a non-com, just like you. " He smiled. "Appreciate the thought though. Unless you have further question I really do need to get back to this wonderful thing I call report filing. " He sighed. "It's probably the biggest pain in my side since...well that's story for another time."

Standing, Petrov offered his hand to the security officer once more . He liked the cut of his jib. "I think we'll work well together," he smiled. "And, I always like a good story. We should get together some time; I've got a few of my own and appreciate a like-minded audience."

"Sounds likes a plan Petrov."

With that, Petrov left the security office feeling good. His next stop was to find Lieutenant Panne, hoping she was in a good mood.
