Jacob walked out of the Captain's Ready Room with an enthusiastic smile on his face; he looked down to his PADD and saw the long list of things yet to do for just THIS day, as he just looked up figuring he was near the turbolift he realized to quick that he was walking right into the path of someone else.... too late, he collided with a pretty stout individual. It was like a large train running into a smaller train...

Cyrus had assumed the blue-uniformed individual would have simply stepped aside, but he had been proven wrong as he attempted to dodge last minute. The man clipped him in the shoulder, forcing Cyrus to spin and brace himself with his legs. "A little busy there Lieutenant?" Cyrus asked sarcastically.

Jacob replied embarrassed, "Oh, sorry there sir." He saw the rank of the man and then added, "I meant Chief. Are you alright? I have to say I was quite busy indeed. I apologize for focusing on my next appointment and not focusing on the situation."

"Things happen, no harm no foul. " He studied the Lieutenant for a second. "You're new aren't you?" He wasn't exactly a veteran of the ship himself, but he had gotten fairly familiar with the old crew enough to understand who had only recently joined and who hadn't.

"I am new." He smiled and extended his hand in greeting, "Chief Research Officers, Lieutenant JG Jacob Pendleton. Pleasure to meet you Chief."

Cyrus took his hand in a firm handshake and smiled. "Research Officer? Isn't that Lieutenant Panne's position? "

Jacob shook his head, "No Chief, she is Chief Science Officer, I handle specific or other projects as required. Therefore I free her up to do more studies, research and other projects that may require her attention. Is that clear as mud?" He smiled back at Cyrus.

Cyrus chuckled. "Just about." Inwardly he cringed. Maenad wouldn't like that. It sounded to Cyrus like that was the Captain's way of saying ' by the way, we don't need you in charge of this...here's someone else...' "Where you headed now mister Pendleton?"

"Meetings with Commander Holliday and then the Nurse and then Counselor.. in that order. What about you? Keeping people in line?" He smiled.


"For the most part, it's been an interesting couple days. I won't keep you overly long, but I'll say that if you are interested there will be a Specialized Operations team that will multi-department. If you're interested swing by my office at some point and I'll register you for the testing.

"That would be so... umm.. what's that old saying?... um.. oh 'Far Out'." He chuckled, "Yeah, I am kind of learning about old Earth slang terms. Sorry. I will swing by as that team sounds great."

"Great! Anytime during beta shift hours, you should find me kickin' around." He gave the taller man a hearty slap on the arm. "I'll see you later then. I got to get around to looking for more potential people. " Cyrus gave him a final wave before continuing his way down the corridor.

Jacob smiled back and went back to his way; as he did he thought, "Well maybe I will actually make some friends here after all."
