660 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
Episode 02 - Resupply
Location: Vega Colony (and arrrival)
Timeline: MD11 10:15 hours
[ON]
It was a pleasant day that saw Jacob board the transport ship to Vega Colony. He took a seat near the front as this transport was only about half full of its possible compliment. His massive frame nearly took two seats to fill but the lack of too many others aboard afforded him some much appreciated "elbow room".
The trip was to last a few hours, but Jacob was excited to get aboard the USS Galileo; even if he wasn't scheduled to report until two days from now, he wanted to take in Vega Colony as well since he had heard so much about it! He couldn't wait to take in the sights and especially the night life! The life of a research guy was plenty fulfilling with all the new things you discover, yet alas is the story of having "a life". Jacob knew he had to "grow up" more when it came to social interactions and exposure to things beyond research papers and files of notes, diagrams and other errata.
The time passed fairly quickly due to Jacob's doing his own personal "research" regarding the Galileo including the brief biographies he could find about some of his soon to be new colleagues. Soon the call came over the speakers, "Approaching Vega Colony. Touching down in twenty minutes."
Jacob gathered his things and walked down the ramp once the transport was landed and secured.
Vega Colony was something akin to his once and only visiting of Las Vegas. It was bustling, busy, filled with sounds and sights and smells of a big city. He walked over to the cargo transition area to make sure his belongings were to taken to the Galileo. As he walked, Jacob got plenty of stares and second looks. He was used to it. He had come to almost expect it wherever he went. He knew his sheer size and imposing stature caught many people off guard; still, he paid it little attention.
Jacob arrived at the transition area and walked up to the attendant. She was about four foot, ten inches tall and very petite, she had bright red, short hair and was really quite the epitome of the word "cute". He came up to her just as she looked up. Her white face went flush as she stared up his massive, muscular frame. Her hands fumbled with the data PADD as she stammerd, "Uh.. umm.. can.. can I um.. help you s.. sir?"
She tried to cover her now blushing face. Jacob smiled somewhat awkwardly at her trying not to notice the blushing and said, "Yes officer, please make sure these items make it directly to my new quarters aboard the USS Galileo? Much appreciated." She looked down at her PADD so not to continue to show her face, "Umm, y... y.. yes sir..." She felt like her knees were going to collapse under her and she trembled a little, "It.. will.. be... done.. er, sir." She tried to smile at him but she just couldn't look directly at him. Jacob smiled again at her. "Very good officer. Hope the rest of your day goes well." She tried to reply but the words would not come out. She wanted to scream her personal contact information to him so maybe they could meet later, but she was too far swooning. She watched him intently (and lustily) as he walked away; then sat down when he was out of sight, she grabbed her bottle of water and chugged it like she had been in the desert for weeks.
Jacob, yet again missing a pointed opportunity to meet a lovely young woman, walked into the city and directly to the Historical Society to do a little research before seeing the rest of the sights.
