Jeremy sat back as he contemplated the two open files. They were...

"Incomplete," he said as he glanced at the time. If he didn't get them sent, however, then he would be in violation of Holliday's orders. Considering the way that the Commander felt about him, Jeremy wasn't comfortable violating any of the Commander's orders. It wouldn't go well for him.

Still.

U.S.S. Galileo - Complete Report of Security Systems and Protocols glared back at him. 237 pages. It was incomplete. His estimate was that it would run at least 280 pages. He frowned as he checked. One of the appendices hadn't properly attached to the document, but that made it only 247 pages. Still short of estimates. And an odd number of pages. That bothered him.

U.S.S. Galileo - Security Analysis showed up as well. 147 pages. The only thing here he could think was not added were the exact number of knives in the mess hall. He had gone there several times to check - not just for quantity but type as well. Yet everytime he did, he kept getting sidetracked. Now he was unsatisfied with the phrase "...and numerous knives need to be more appropriately secured.". It really needed to be more precise. But there was nothing for it. The galley would be closed at this time and he wasn't going to use security overrides in such a piddly manner.

He frowned as he stared at the screen and the open documents. He could override the security seals on the galley and count the knives. He could very well do that. He sighed and closed both documents. He could do it, but it would be wrong to do so.

Commander Holliday he typed as a cover letter,

Please find attached the reports U.S.S. Galileo - Report of Security Systems and Protocols as well as U.S.S. Galileo - Security Analysis.

Both are as complete as I could make them given the short timeframe in which I had to complete the assignment. I will send revised copies with updated information as soon as I am able but should be within the week. Please let me know if there is any dissatisfaction with either report.

Jeremy stared at the screen for several long minutes, frowning as he considered that there was something that was supposed to go after that last line. He knew there was but just couldn't remember what. His name, rank and position had to go at the bottom, but there was something that went between the body of the letter and his information. It was frustrating because he knew that at one point in his life he wouldn't eve have to stop and think about these things. He would know what it was like he would know his favorite food or his shoe size or...

He shook his head. Judging from the way he found his quarters when he woke up, he had a bad night. He couldn't remember what happened, and he hadn't left himself any notes on his PADD except for a vague sense of ill will toward Holliday and Kiwoski - and severe disappointment in Mulgrew and McFarlan. The damage to his hands also indicated his day ended badly. Already he would require a new heavy bag to replace the one he just obtained when he came aboard ship. However, that was in the past and forgotten. In his case, literally. He didn't want to try to dredge up anymore ill will by frustrating himself before he scheduled himself to go on duty and conduct performance evaluations.

Thank you,

Lieutenant(junior grade) Jeremy Stone
Chief Security/Tactical Officer
U.S.S. Galileo

It seemed a reasonable way to end the letter at the very least.

He hit the command that would send the message and attached files, then leaned back in his chair, looking at the mess in his quarters that existed now only in his very faulty memory.

At least he was honest when he said they weren't complete and he would finish them up as time permitted over the next week. Though, he doubted that his honesty would carry much weight with Commander Holliday. He just had to hope that Commander Holliday would consider what he did send off as completion of the assignment given him.
