[ON]

It had only been a couple of days since Aren had accepted the position of Executive Officer for the Galileo-A. He had hit the ground running, even having to make a quick transit to Earth. The trip and transit had been spontaneous and necessary but it had eaten into some of his preparation time as well as other duties. One of the duties that he had shirked happened to be conducting on-boarding interviews.

He had wanted to do interviews in person, but the sudden trip to Earth had altered that plan. At least Aren had access to a Holo-Communicator, both on Earth and at Rigel II. "Small favors." He said to himself has he stood with the pickup and activated the system. His office on board the station came into view as he waited for his 1200 appointment.

Oliver Sylver walked into the office at the behest of a yeoman, looking around. Oh. Right. Not a face to face. He knew he would show up in front of the man. If he had been a bit of a superstitious man, he could almost feel the scans being done. "Sir," he said aloud. "Chief Warrant Officer Oliver Sylver reporting." He stayed still, but his eyes went to see if the man hadn't shown up somewhere else. Couldn't look behind him, so he stood there...waiting. The XO was new to him. But he had been gone for close to two years so understandably he wouldn't know everyone who was being posted to the Galileo. Even so, Oliver felt like this was the first time he was coming on a ship and had made sure his uniform was flawless. The Marines might be disbanded and getting absorbed into the regular Fleet, but Oliver still drew on the skills he had back then. Including the spit and shine.

“At ease Chief. Turn 75 degrees to your left.” Aren said, his image and figure off the the chiefs left. This was the first time Aren had done something like this and he felt more than a little awkward doing this long distance, he hopped to not make this a habit. “First of let me apologize to you about not being here in person,” he said as he moved his hand to encompass the hologram, “I normally like to conduct these meetings face to face, but with every new ship there is always something that needs done and never enough hours in the day to do it. Secondly welcome back aboard the Galileo. You will notice that she has gone through some changes both physically and in regards to personnel. There should be a PADD on the desk with you welcome aboard brief, if not, please let me know and I will get that sent to you right away.” Aren said, hoping that the young operations crewman that had been assigned to help set this all up on Rigel II had remembered to place the PADD on the desk. “Do you have any questions for me?”

Sylver turned to look at the man, giving a small nod before he moved to the desk. He picked up the PADD, glancing at it. "No, Sir. No questions," he admitted before he swallowed. This was strange. Looking at a projection of the XO. He took a deeper breath and smiled weakly. "Just eager to get to work, Sir." Of course, he knew he wouldn't have much to do until he was...well. Out there. With the rest of them.

Aren nodded. "I can appreciate that. Trust me, there is plenty of work to go around. We still aren't scheduled to leave dry dock for awhile, and seeing as you are part of the flight department, I want you prepared to run sims this time tomorrow. Our acting Chief Flight Officer has muster at 0900 and after her spiel be expected to put in some long days until more of our personnel arrive." Aren said as looked at the plan of the day for tomorrow. "Also, make sure to take your records to medical after this. We have been having trouble syncing with the medical database and I want everyone to manually submit copies. Have you had a chance to meet with the yeoman for quarters assignments?" Aren asked.

"No Sir...but I want to make a request," Oliver said and met Aren's eyes, taking a deeper breath. He always struggled requesting personal things. For him, it always felt as if he was being rude. "For me to be quartered with Verity Thorne."

Aren raised an eyebrow. Except for special occasions, crew berthing assignments weren't something that Aren was usually intimately involved with. He reached for his PADD that was just outside of visual range. "I don't see why that would be an issue, it should be easy enough to accommodate," he started as he brought up the most recent berthing assignments, "though may I ask as to the nature of this request?" He asked hoping that the answer would be satisfactory, but also making a note to look into both individuals before approving the request.

"I..." he blushed, taking a deeper breath. Somehow, having asked, he now felt stupid. As if it was...overstepping. "He's my boyfriend, Sir. We...met on the Galileo. We kept the relationship going after I was reassigned. It's...been a long time since I've been in the same room as him." And they had used to share quarters before. But he would understand if the request was denied.

A look of understanding crossed the Holographic visage of Aren. "I see." Aren said, before skimming over the PADD. He was quiet for a moment as he skimmed through both of their service records and history before nodding to himself and looking back up to Sylver. "In principle, I don't see a problem being able to accommodate this request. I will make a note as to berthing assignments, so the yeoman can make any adjustments as necessary." Aren said as he made the appropriate remarks into both of their files. Normally this sort of request would have given him pause, but for some reason his instincts were telling him to approve it. I must be getting a soft spot for love and companionship. He thought to himself as he studied Sylver.

Oliver smiled warmly, relief and gratefulness clear on his face. "Thank you," he said softly, taking a deeper breath. It meant a lot to him. And it meant a lot that the XO had considered it rather than dismissing it. It said a lot about the man. "I...really appreciate it, Sir."

Aren nodded. "Give the yeoman an hour so before approaching them with the assignment. They need to get things moved around." He said as he set down his PADD just outside the visual pick-up of the holo-communicator. "If you have nothing else for me, I want to officially welcome you aboard the Galileo. I look forward to working with you in the future and to meet you in person."

"Yes Sir...and I look forward to meeting you in the flesh too, Sir," Oliver said with a warm smile, giving him a nod. And he did. He wanted to shake the man's hand so to speak.

Aren smiled. "You are dismissed."

"Yes Sir," Oliver smiled back and gave a firm nod before he left the room, a spring in his step.
