Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: USS Chaka - Lounge
Timeline: MD -44, 1311 hrs

ON:

Eelim walked into the lounge on the Chaka and looked around. He spotted Marisa sitting off to the side people watching. He grinned and waved at her. Ordering his hot chocolate Eelim walked towards her remembering a similar meeting on the Romulan ship.

====Days ago====

Romulan Lounge

Varro and Eelim entered the Romulan lounge. Neither could sleep, even for a few hours.

Varro looked around the room fascinated with the décor that even in that particular time looked sleek and futuristic. There were some familiar touches, a game of 3D chess, a game of Kaltoe. He smiled ever so slightly. He'd always felt more at home on the Romulan colony then anywhere.

Eelim on the other hand felt kind of jumpy. He kept looking around as if waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Slowly they made their way to a table in the corner and sat down.

Marisa was hoping to find someone to play a game of 3D Chess in the lounge. It had been a while since she'd played and playing with Romulans would be an interesting challenge.

As she looked around the lounge, she noticed the pair in the corner. Deciding to say hello, she walked over to the table. "Hi. Mind if I join you?"

Eelim smiled broadly. "Sure! It be nice to have someone interesting to talk to," he said clearly jabbing at Varro who seemed to be rather subdued today.

Varro then glanced up from being lost in thought. "Ohhh I did not see you arrive Counselor. Would you like to join us?"

Eelim gave Sandoval a look as if to say 'see what i'm working with'.

"I would be delighted. Thank you, she said to Varro. She cast a quick grin at Eelim as she sat down. "How are the two of you today?"

Eelim shrugged. "I'm alright. I was aboard a Romulan ship for a few years and my older brother is with the Romulans. I'm pretty comfortable here.

There was a long drawn out silence before Varro seemed to pull his eyes away from where he was looking. "Oh.. yes before we were on Krenus I was at a Romulan colony so I am fine as well." He turned his eyes back towards the bar where Eviess sat eating what looked like Romulan ice cream and talking with the bartender.

Eelim grinned. He looked at Sandoval and winked. "You know Varro...I heard that Eviess asked for a transfer to stay here." Varro tore his gaze from Eviess and looked at Eelim. "You heard what?"

Eelim chuckled. "Why don't you just ask her out."

Varro shook his head. "You my friend have it all wrong."

Eelim shook his head and smiled. He ignored Soral for the moment. "So, Counselor, how are you doing?"

"Better now that we're off the Duja'Q. And that was much better than Kreanus, so things are definitely looking up." Marisa turned to Varro. "I agree. You should ask her out. What's the worst that could happen? She says no? If she does, you're no worse off than you are now."

Varro sighed. "Et tu counselor?" He shrugged. "Eviess is a friend. She is kind, and easily taken advantage of. As a friend it is my job to look out for her there is much in her past that shows me that. I loved...love Marcus still." He said more to try and convince himself then anything.

Eelim smiled. "Sure." He rolled his eyes and looked at the counselor, "Counselor I know this is a social setting but I have a shop question for you."

"Any time is fine for asking questions," she said. "What's your question?" She turned to Varro. "You and I have talked, so I think I understand you better than you might think. You can love both Marcus and Eviess. In fact, I think it would do you a world of good to ask her out."

Varro said nothing.

Eelim grinned at Varro and turned to the counselor, his face turning serious. "It is normal to be both happy to be going home and somewhat scared?"

Marisa nodded. "It is. After Kreanus and the Duja'Q it's quite logical. I think most of us feel the way you do. Happy to finally go home, to see family and familiar places, and scared about what will happen when we get there and have to face Starfleet with what happened."

Eelim sighed, "I suppose." He looked at Marisa. "So...I've always wondered. Who counsels the counselor?"

Marisa grinned at the question. "Well, if there's more than one counselor on the ship, then we counsel each other. Otherwise, we take care of it when we're on a starbase or planet."

Eelim smiled. "Well if you ever need to talk. I'm no counselor but I'm a good listener."

Varro seemed to snap out of his thoughts, "I will as well extend the offer." He turned to look at Marisa. "I have always been fascinated as to what brought people where they are. Why counseling, it is an unusual profession for us Vulcans."

"Thank you both," she said. She appreciated the offer. It was nice to know she had people who were willing to listen if she ever needed to talk. "Why counseling? I sort of fell into it. My primary focus was science, but my friends kept coming to me for advice and help with problems. I decided I liked helping them, so I added Psychology. I've worked in both science and counseling in my Starfleet career."

"Fascinating," Varro said as he sipped his drink. The three chatted for a long while getting to know one another, bonding as crewmates should. About 45 minutes later Varro began to excuse himself. "I apologize for leaving early but I have a few matters to tend to."

Eelim gave a nod, "Well you have a good night Varro."

Varro said goodbye to the counselor and took his leave.

Eelim stared after him shaking his head, "I worry about him."

"Why do you worry?" Marisa asked. "I might be able to help."

Eelim sighed, "Well I'm no counselor but there is something wrong. I've noticed that .... well..he seems fearful."

Marisa looked to the door where Varro had exited. "I'll have a talk with him. Maybe he'll tell me what's going on." She turned her attention back to Eelim. "And you? How are you doing?"

He shrugged. "I'm alright. This whole experience has changed me a lot...I'm still learning and I feel like I'm in a new skin." He studied the counselor. "How about you? Are you doing alright with all this?"

"After Kreanus, all this is a cakewalk," she said, her tone wry. "I'm far more familiar with Romulan culture than I am Klingon, so it's easier to deal with, and once we pass the Board of Inquiry, we should all be able to get back to normal." At least she hoped so. But for now, she was going to remain determinedly optimistic.

Eelim smiled, "Well counselor. I should go. I must admit I am rather tired."

"I thank you for your company," the counselor said. She'd enjoyed the conversation and the company while she ate. It kept her from her own thoughts, which of late were becoming harder to keep in their proper place.

=====Present Time====

Eelim reached the table where Marisa was sitting. He smiled. "Counselor we meet again." He gestured around, "Not as fancy as the Romulan lounge but at least it's homey."

"It's nice to be back in familiar territory," she said, smiling. "Care to join me?" She waved to an empty chair.

Eelim smiled, "Of course." He couldn't deny that he was feeling more at ease now that they were back on a Starfleet ship.
