As much as Rayze wanted to explore his new ship, meet all of the crew, and seek out his quarters to take a sonic shower to rid himself of the imagined fatigue of travel, he wanted to make a good impression with his superiors more. After just over fifteen years without having been tapped for any position of authority higher than an assistant of basic flight leader, this opportunity he had on Galileo might be his one last chance to get his career moving again. It was a long time to go without a promotion in either rank or responsibility, so he was going to make sure he didn't blow it. One of the first questions he'd asked of the ship's computer was who had last been in charge of the Security department that he was taking over now, and the answer had lead him to the office of one Lieutenant Commander Luke Wyatt.

Rayze didn't just press the door chime to ask for permission to come in, but he started talking before the response even came or the doors slid open, sounding boisterous and cheerful, "Hey, Luke! Rayze here. New Security Chief? Do you have a minute? I wanted to uh, pick your brain, I think Terrans say. Such an interesting expression really."

Luke was going over the latest fleet movement and space traffic reports starfleet had sent him, (who knew how much paper work a Strategic Officer had to do) someone barged into the room saying his name and catching him completely of guard. Damn he was getting lazy because he didnt even move of his seat to defend himself. "Urm... Hi" Luke replied, somewhere in the back of his mind he remember being told a new chief was arriving and already he liked him.

No matter how strange he might be viewed as later as the conversation went on, Rayze made a couple of movements as he entered that Luke would no doubt recognise. The blonde man checked the corners automatically, scanned the room with his eyes as if searching out anywhere threats might be hidden or could jump out from, and gave Luke himself a measuring look despite the smile he wore. They were the actions of someone whose life had deepened on being alert and aware, now second nature.

"Hey, Luke Wyatt, glad to meet you," Rayze said with a grin, and leaned over the desk to offer a hand for a firm shake. "Rayze, new security chief. Figured I'd come see the man who most recently ran my new team, get all the gossip and details right from the boss. If you have some time and I'm not interrupting really fascinating ship deployment updates or something."

Luke took the mans hand and shook it firmly. "Well I wasn't so much as in charge, I was just kinda covering till you turned up but I can answer your questions to the best of my ability." He offered the seat opposite him, "Don't worry I haven't booby trapped the chair" He teased noticing the way the man always seemed to be on red alert.

Rayze sank down into the seat with a quick laugh, "That's good to know. Sorry, old habits die hard. The odds of a Jem'Hadar or Borg drone lurking in the corner of your office are pretty slim. But..." He settled down and relaxed, focusing on the conversation, "So, what can you tell me about them? Any personalities or characters I should keep an eye on, or any discipline issues that I should be aware of but that didn't wind up in an official report?"

"All of them" He laughed before continuing, "We have quiet the bunch here but none of them are trouble makers, unlike myself. I'm sure you'll hear plenty the story" Luke said thinking about the next question. "There has been the odd Theft, complaint and assault. But I've allowed the Assistant chief step up to the plate, I've been more of an on looker than Chief." He admitted.

"Hmm." Rayze eyed the man seriously for a moment, obviously considering things internally. He'd been reading Security logs from the past during nearly all the free time he had since coming on board earlier, and while he hadn't gotten very far yet he'd certainly found some interesting incidents. "I've never served on such a small ship before," Rayze admitted, keeping his thoughts to himself and guiding the conversation elsewhere. "I imagine it can cause some issues when it comes to discipline amongst the crew. Living in such close quarters has to fray some nerves at times."

"Actually the opposite." Luke said, "Were more of a family as cliche as it sounds. Were usually not used to petite crime and violance, though the last few weeks more reports have come in about a certain case. I havent had to much dealing with it as i've tried to allow Armarnai have most of the rein, being as I am not strictly secuirty anymore." He admitted.

The positive response seemed to please the Risian, and he grinned again, "Well, that's good news. Baby sitting petty disputes is never fun, but I'd rather that even than any real big problems or animosities on board. But what's this 'certain case'? I haven't even unpacked a bag yet since coming on board, let alone had time to dig into the security logs."

"Well" Luke started frowning "There was an asuualt of sorts, Lieutenant Galan was attacked. Mostly the previous chief was incharge of it and she lead the investigation im afraid my knowledge is a bit diluted but it's a bit edgy... If you understand?"

The Risian's frown matched Luke's in it's severity, banishing all traces of his usual mirth and good humour. An assault on a crewman was serious, all the moreso as Rayze recognised the name as being a member of his own staff. There were many things he had to take care of coming on board to take over a department that was suddenly vacated, but this news made him adjust his priorities.

"That's not good to hear," Rayze understated. "I'm going to need to get caught up on this right away, see where Lieutenant Gyce left things..." He shook his head, frustrated and worried. "In fact, I don't think I'll take up any more of your time, Commander. I'm sure you understand."

Luke nodded grateful "It was no bother, I'm sorry I cant be as much us to you as you hoped. Ive just been a little busy to be heading two departments at once but it gave as the opportunity to meet which was a pleasure"
