Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo - Intelligence Office
Timeline: MD 93

ON:

It had been a long day for the Ensign, catching the late transport off Earth to Jupiter station. Her transfer request from Starfleet HQ to the USS Galileo was only finally approved that morning. Despite the time constraints she managed. Her PADD carried details of her assignment, and who she was supposed to report to initially.

She passed through the line of people boarding and is soon left to wander. "A Nova class.." she muttered softly. "Not the newest and definately one of the smallest ship, but certainly a good explorer." Having taken a deep breath, then Lia stretched herself out all over in the empty hallway. "Computer, where is Ensign Tyrion Faye now?"

Receiving a reply in short order, the ensign proceeded to the location.

Tyrion on his turn had received the message to expect a new assistant. Purposefully, he had refrained from reading her personnel file, preferring to rely on a first meeting rather than anything he'd find in her file. Nursing a large mug of steaming hot coffee, the Betazoid watched the door, while keeping an eye on his monitor which was streaming data at the same time.

Lia stood in front of the Intelligence Office and took a deep breath, focused her mind and walked in. The office was small and her eyes quickly caught the other person to the room. "Ensign Faye, I presume?"

Black eyes gave the young woman the once-over as he nodded. "Yes ma'am," he replied politely. This was a huge change on behaviour from when he first boarded the Galileo. He took note of her grey collar, but did no more than that. "How may I help you?" he continued, gesturing towards the chair opposite of his desk. He sensed her focus, but again, made no move to acknowledge it.

"I'm a telepath as well." She remarked before continuing, "Ensign Lia Circe, I'm your new assistant."

Tyrion nodded. "I've been expecting you," he explained, "and I wasn't reading you. While I'm a telepath, I've never used this skill on anyone without their prior consent. Please sit, Miss Circe, and tell me a little about yourself."

Lia took a few steps closer and sat down on the chair. "I try not to read into people, it's why I focus my attention so hard. I was born with my abilities turned on...over the years I have learned to compensate."

"I understand." Tyrion understood only too well, it was one of the reasons why he'd fled Betazed in the first place. "I was born telepathic," he added by way of explanation. "How do you compensate?"

Lia shrugged, "I just do. It's very difficult to explain, but it's like when you listen to a single voice in room full of noisy people. You just focus your attention completely." She leaned back on the chair, "I will say this though, there is a relaxing quality hearing everyone's thoughts at once. There is a strange harmony in the discord and chaos."

"I try to shield them out, draw up a big mental wall leaving only feelings. I don't read thoughts and if I get any surface thoughts it's by accident as I don't try to get any. But I do think that the focus idea is a good one." He smiled, "I'll keep that one in mind. Can you tell me a little about your experience in intelligence? What's your specialty?"

"I was originally part of the diplomatic attaché to the Darsaean Alliance, and while I was more of the Ambassador's Aide's assistant so I spent my time gathering information on the locals. The information was so detailed it caught the eye of the Intel chief and he recruited me. For about 2 years I was on the field, undercover missions specializing in reconnaissance, data gathering, some infiltration. An informant did betray me and my cover was blown...so for the past year I was doing decryption and other paperwork at HQ on Earth." Lia answered honestly.

"So you specialize in undercover operations and decryption," Tyrion summarized with an approving nod. "Good, I may have an assignment for you soon."

The tip of her lips tilted upwards. "Is that so? Exciting."

"Yes. I want you to monitor the admiral's communications. Who contacts her, who she contacts but more importantly, I want you to see if anyone else is listening in. That's what I'm after, the third party. Do you think you can do that? I dont need content of her messages, I just want a list of people."

Lia arched her brow, "You believe the Admiral has been compromised?"

"No, I believe she may be a target," Tyrion explained, "I can't give you much more information as I'll need to speak with Commander Holliday first. It's a very sensitive subject and I'll need his authorization to discuss matters further. But I'll need your help regardless."

Lia nodded, "I'll see what I can discover for you. Do I have permission to use listening devices or am are my tools for this assignment limited?"

"Use whatever means you need to as long as the admiral doesn't catch you."

Lia rose up from her seat, "I will not let you down, Chief."

"I doubt you will," Tyrion smiled, and rose as well while extending his hand. "Welcome aboard ensign, I'm sure you're a fine addition to my small team."

Lia looked down at his extended hand for a moment before reaching out and taking it and shaking his hand. She felt a strong wave of sadness from him, but she didn't ask about it. "I will get started right away, Sir." And with a nod, Lia turned on her heels and got started.
