Gyce waited until she and Jynn were in the turbolift before she spoke to him.

"I'm putting my reputation as a good detective on the line for you," Gyce told him quietly. "I will not coach you what to say to the captain, but I will tell you this... Judges only lighten sentences of a guilty person if they feel that person is truly remorseful and worth it to rehabilitate. So if you wish to stay in this fleet, then you need to make your act with Tuula, right."

"Speaking with honesty has gotten me as far as it has so far," Jynn began, staring through the turbolift door as he did so. "I intend to keep it that way, even if the captain sees it fit to be rid of me entirely." It was strange, but now that there almost seemed a chance of avoiding a discharge he was torn on the matter. Would he be free (if one could call it that) to continue his service? Sure, but at the increased scorn of his people. If he were given a reprieve it could possibly even make things worse. Still, to just give up and go home would destroy him. He wasn't about to just give up. "Do you think there's a chance he will be sympathetic? Be honest."

Gyce looked at him quizzically before she answered. "COs are not judges per say... Some will hear you out, others will not. In this case, I believe Captain Holliday to be a good man, so if you make your case he may fight for you - assuming your government does not like his judgement."

When Gyce saw the lift was about to reach the bridge deck, she quickly added, "I would also tell you that despite what happens, you need to sever your ties with Tuula. If you truly love her and cannot grasp control of your feelings, you could very well damage her further in any future interactions with her - not to mention she is a temptation you should not look to - At least until you are better."

A nod of acceptance was the only reply given by Jynn. He wasn't fond of severing ties with people, but when the threat of destruction of two or more people's lives was in the balance it made the decision much easier to make. He would abide by any decisions made and advice given.

Gyce led him to the ready room and upon gaining permission she escorted him in first. This was the part of the investigation she knew not to speak at, unless the captain asked her something. Jynn was now the master of his destiny.

"Lieutenant Jynn, as ordered Sir," Gyce spoke respectfully, then took a spot by the door.

"Thank you Lieutenant." Holliday replied as he looked up to the arrival of the two officers he had summoned. John was not the kind of man to pussyfoot around a subject. He was clear on what had happened, and clear on what the impact of his various options would be.

"I am not planning to drag this out. I have read the report surrounding your activities, and saying that they are questionable is like saying a Klingon can get a little irritable. Your actions have shown a blatant disregard for Starfleet protocol, personnel and the principles on which it stands."

Jonathan took a breath before continuing.

"I am faced with several options, the most severe of which would be your immediate dismissal from Starfleet and your transfer to the Deltan security services for processing. Do you have anything to say before I pass judgement?"

“I fucked up.” That really was all it was when you reduced it to the simplest of circumstances. Just a slip of self control that ended up in a downward spiral leading to his probable destruction. All boiled down to one simple statement. “And for that I should be punished. But I didn't do anything out of malice or greed. It was a slip up. A monumentally simple slip up. I don't want to leave, but... I know you'll make the right decision.”

"A little too late to start having a conscience Mr Jynn." Holliday replied, not accepting the man's sincerity for a single second. John had always believed that a man was the master of his own destiny, and to simply say that one made a mistake or a slip up that led to inappropriate contact with others was simply unacceptable.

"You are hereby stripped of your rank as a Lieutenant in Starfleet. Pending rehabilitation you will be offered to retain your commission as an Ensign, should you accept you will be monitored closely for a minimum period of six months, within which any deviation from accepted behaviour will land you squarely in a Federation penitentiary - in fact I will take you there myself if I so much as hear a rumour that anything like this has happened again."

Holliday took a moment to lock eyes with the Deltan, fixing squarely on his very soul as he allowed the impact of what he had just said to sink in.

"You are hereby confined to quarters until we reach Jupiter Station, where a psychiatric team from Starfleet Medical will take over. That is all. Lieutenant Benice, I return the prisoner to your care, escort him back to his quarters and get those pips off of his collar."

"Sir," Gyce nodded in reply, then walked out of her corner and over to the two of them. She gently took the pips off Jynn's collar and handed them to Holliday before she just as gently took Jynn by the elbow. "Let's go, Mister Jynn."

How exactly was Jynn supposed to feel at this moment? Ecstatic? He wasn't being sent home! But he was also being severely punished for what for all intents and purposes was a crime. Sorrow? Or maybe salvation? He was being given a chance to change. He was beginning to learn the error of his ways. The problem was that he was being himself. That was being made abundantly clear by almost everyone he came across. Maybe his self should be adjusted to fit the needs of his continued service better?

Of course adjustment was necessary. It was the last step. Investigation, humiliation, and now rehabilitation. The particulars remained to be seen, but Jynn knew that whatever would be decided would be the proper course of action. Maybe he could be fixed. Maybe he could be different. Only time would tell.

He gave a nod that did not rebound, his head staying low. "Yes, sir," he spoke quietly before being removed from the room. It would probably be the last time he would see Jynn.
