Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo - CEO's Office
Timeline: MD6, 1400 hours

[ON]

Knowing the acting CEO would probably go off duty soon, Rheneas hurried from his work space, not caring about his appearance at all. He knew he was dirty and smudged (kind of the way he liked it anyways) and very much in need of a clean-up, but now was as good a time as any.

Now that things were finally calming down a little, Rheneas thought he might formally report in since he didn't really have a chance to before. Sometimes, having to report to two different DH's could be quite the hassle. Approaching the office, he knocked on the door and peered inside, observing the Vulcanoid officer for a moment. "Sir do you have a moment?"

"I have many moments," K'os said cheerfully as he turned towards the voice. He already knew who it was by the colour pattern that sprung to mind when the beautifully accented words reached his ears. Seeing the trademarked freckles on the man's face, K'os smiled warmly. "What can I do for you, Mr. Malachy?" K'os put down the PADD he was reading and leaned against the desk and crossed his arms in thought.

"I didn't really have a chance to report in before sir," the Australian NCO replied, "so I thought I'd do that now. Formally I mean. I'm also in science so I shift between places as needed. I don't really have a specialty but I'm willing to learn whatever is needed most." He smiled a little "Petty Officer Rheneas Malachy reporting sir."

K’os offered a warm smile and a handshake. “I suppose it has been a bit...hectic around here lately.” K’os moved back towards his desk and shuffled things around until he found a particular PADD. “You said you don’t really have a specialty. Do you have any particular interests?”

Rheneas grinned. "I like getting my hands dirty," he offered, "preferably in soil or dirt, but as far as engineering goes....I haven't really found a particular point of interest yet. I like fixing things though...take them apart and put back together. Do you have suggestions?

K’os leaned against the desk and puffed air out of his lips in thought. “Oh, I dunno.” He rubbed his hand on the desk as if suddenly fascinated with the texture of the material it was made of. “I elected for advanced crewman training after boot camp so I started off as a propulsion specialist. I did that for three years before deciding to enroll in the matter & energy specialist course. Mainly because I preferred the systems management side of it and it followed my career plan. So typically you would research a specialty based on your interest and then enroll into a qualification course. You’d then apprentice with a specialist in that field to prepare you to take the certification exam to qualify for specialist designation. You’re probably better off talking to the Chief of the Boat or wait till our new Chief Engineer arrives and plan out a career track. That’s what I did during my enlisted career anyway.”

Nodding, Rheneas considered the option. "I heard the CoB is a bit of a grouch....I'll wait for the chief engineer then. What are you going to do when he arrives, haven't you been acting chief sir?" Though he'd probably never go into the officer's track, Rheneas couldn't help but feel that he wouldn't like being displaced after filling a role for quite some time.

K'os shrugged indicating it was a simple matter and had a look on his face that conveyed he hadn't really given it a lot of thought. "I have, yes. Acting CEO since Lieutenant Jones was injured. When a new Chief arrives, I'll be resuming my position as assistant Chief." Which seemed fine with K'os. After everything that had happened during his time as acting CEO, K'os was very much looking forward to handing back over the reigns. He excelled at training and repair management but big picture thinking on a ship wide scale was still something very new to K'os.

"I suppose not everyone wants to be chief," Rheneas acknowledged and smiled. "If I may be so bold sir...how old are you?"

K'os wrinkled his forehead as he wondered why he wanted to know his age. He mimicked the man's smile and said, "I'll be turning 27 soon."

"You don't look it...but you're part Vulcan aren't you." His smile broadened a little. "Still plenty of time to aspire for chief. I turned 27 recently and you do look younger than me.

K'os smiled as his eyes drifted from Rheneas' face. Slow ageing was something that had always been at the back of K'os' mind. He'd gone through most of his early adulthood proving to people he wasn't a teenager. 'Wait till you're in your forties,' his grandmother would say, 'you'll be counting yourself lucky that you look so young.' His brow wrinkled in thought before his lips spread into a tight-lipped smile and his grey-blue eyes flicked back to the man. "I've made it a habit to leave as many doors open as possible, wherever my aspirations take me. So yes, I have lots of time," he chuckled. "Might be why I'm such a patient person."

"Unlike most Humans," Rheneas chuckled, "I can't say I'm a very patient man, though I'm happy with the work that I do so I've no hurry to get up the ladder just yet." He felt his stomach growl and realized he hadn't eaten yet. "Have you had lunch yet sir?"

K'os stood straighter, taking his hand off the desk. "No, my metabolism keeps me from needing several meals in a day. Which is okay, let's me get more work done." The hybrid flicked a smile briefly on his face, "I don't really have anything else to add so you're free to go and eat. Thank you for taking the time to report in with me."

"Well...if you ever do want to share lunch...or maybe visit an old Australian gold mine, let me know." Rheneas smiled back at him. "It was good meeting you sir."
