Mission: Episode 09 - Empires
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 2 - Mess Hall
Timeline: MD05 - 1100

ON:

Stace had hauled herself up in a quiet part of the Mess Hall for the past hour. She hadn't been there of late, and since she felt a certain responsibility to be present and show her face to the crew after such an ordeal, she positioned herself into a corner, faced the room and got down to work. Since the rift there had been so much to work through and Stace didn't have much time for any of it. But as she cast her attention upwards, she spied the chief of operations sidle through the door and into the Mess.

"Lieutenant," Stace called up, placing her PADD down quickly. "Have you got a minute? I just want to go over these power distribution reports you sent me earlier."

Min had just stepped in to grab a ration bar before ducking back to her office to work on more paperwork when she saw the new XO address her. 'Rikering' the chair, Min sat down in front of Stace. "Sure commander."

"I'm a little concerned with how much power we're pulling from non-essential systems just to keep the primaries within normal specs during the repairs." She paused and then showed the data padd to Min. "It's nothing too drastic, but if anything was to happen, to keep containment, I'd prefer a surplus of power to draw from." She looked at the padd again. Wiping her forehead again, Stace sighed. "Maybe I'm being too picky with it. I just don't want another surge that got us in this mess."

"The risk of another surge like what got us here is minimal at this point. The Main Deflector is disconnected last I looked and Engineering doesn't want to touch it until they've had a chance to find out why the surge happened. We're also looking at four decks with blown relays, just from the deflector."

Min paused. "I'm not happy with it either but till we can get the Galileo into a proper repair facility, we won't have much if any reserves to call on. These smaller ships just don't have the resources to handle this major a catastrophe."

"Wow, I never thought I'd miss the Gilmore as much as I do right now," Stace said quietly, placing down the padd is frustrated anger. "At least we had systems to pull from. Decks and decks of space instead of this little tin can floating about space held together only with spit and vinegar." She paused and then smiled at her own outburst. "What are you used to dealing with, Min?"

"As an Ops manager, just this class." Min paused. She wasn't sure if Stace had read her service jacket as a matter of course or not. "My career to this point has been somewhat unusual. My jacket has the particulars but I took a leave from the fleet for several years following my first posting. That posting, I was assigned to one of the teams overseeing the waste management systems on a Galaxy class starship."

"I'm aware of your personal history in the Fleet," Stace replied, leaning in a little and lowering her voice. "Well, aware what your service record details at least," she then clarified with a knowing look. "But if it's one thing I've learnt over these lifetimes it's that you can't judge someone by someone else's opinion of them. And I've written enough reports to know that a little bit of personal bias always creeps in. We all make mistakes, Min."

"I know Commander. At the same time, it helps explain my answer." Min nodded. "The Galaxy class though, never seemed to lack for power. A few of the officers I knew who stood bridge watch said the power was never an issue, the class just never had enough sensors to satisfy the demands of the science team onboard."

"Well, let's concentrate on the matter at hand, instead of things already dealt with in a time gone by." Stace paused and then smiled softly. "Is there a work-around with our power-systems as they are? Even just to satisfy my own fears?"

Min shook her head. "We have so little reserves it's not funny. Every square inch of the ship is crammed full of stuff that's either power sensitive or needs light & heat to function. When we first came through, we ended up having to wire the shuttles into the EPS system like a couple of portable generators to get power to restore enough of the ship we could bring the core back online."

Stace then relented and then, pursing her lips, nodded her head. "Well, I suppose that's that, then. We'll have to take our chances as they are." She took in her breath and then leant forward for her original padd. "Thanks, Lieutenant," she then said with a smile. "And if there's anything you need to come and talk to me about then please, my office door is always open."

Min nodded, "I appreciate the offer. When things are a little calmer I do have a personal matter to discuss, but that can wait till we're back home."

"My door is always open to anyone on the crew, Lieutenant. Always."
