Taliesin had just arrived outside the doors of the Armoury, PADD in hand. His task for the early evening was a simple enough one, to work with Crewman Koenig on an inventory of the personal weapons they had in stores and to check for any damages that might have been caused by their trip through the vortex. It was the kind of work that Taliesin actually found to be quite relaxing. There were no pressing demands to chase down a suspect, the paperwork was straightforward and quick. A quiet way to spend his time before supper, to do something that made him feel like part of the Security team.

That it was Crewman Koenig that he was working with tonight was a mixed blessing. While they got along just fine, and had even shared a holodeck program of intense rock climbing and some exhilarating cliff diving, Ezra did have the tendency to talk. Far more than the rather stoic and reserved Taliesin at least. The Welshman had listened to a number of stories about Ezra's journeys across whole sectors of space, tales of strange aliens, or brave colonists, frightening scenes of poverty and violence, or wondrous vistas on aliens worlds.

Taliesin had spent much of his own life on board the Toshvot Trading Station where he'd been born, and though he had dealt with numerous alien species he'd never really been anyplace else until the station was abandoned. He'd seen Acamar during his enlisted training for Starfleet, and then saw the interior of a number of ships and not much else besides the rare shore leave on yet more stations. Taliesin doubted some of Ezra's stories at times, but he did admit to himself that he was a bit jealous of the other man's experiences. Perhaps he'd get to hear more as they worked, and live a little vicariously.

If Taliesin found their current job relaxing, Ezra felt the complete opposite. Routine work to him was quite boring and being bored was a recipe for disaster with Ezra. Bored made him anxious to do something exciting even if he had to make something happen himself. He also hated silence, unless he was alone. Working with Taliesin was great for the eye-candy he provided, but Ezra found himself more often than not filling the silence that often fell between them. Attractive people, men or women, usually made Ezra babble and ramble too which didn't help matters much.

"...No I know, but man if you could have seen the look on his face. We were run out of that club within seconds by very large and very angry Nausicaans. How we managed to get back to the hostel, I have no idea. Hey, what do use in your hair to make it look like that?" Ezra resisted the urge to touch Taliesin's head even though he really wanted to. "I mean, I don't really use anything in mine. Probably why it just looks messy all the time. Oh! Did you see PO Clarkson today? She ate alone. Wonder if her and Fredrikson are still dating." Ezra stayed a step or two behind Taliesin. Mainly because he walked faster, but also for the stolen glances it provided for Ezra as he blabbered on.

For a moment, Taliesin stared at Ezra, forgetting where he was in the chain of the story as he looked into the other's dark eyes. He'd been about to ask what had become of the Bolian, the one with the toupee, when the topic suddenly shifted. The Welshman lifted a hand to his hair which he'd combed that morning but was looking slightly disarrayed at this point. He tried to avoid using any sort of product, as even regular shampoo could make his thick hair poofy and a pain to get to settle down. Thank goodness for sonic showers. Taliesin opened his mouth to answer, and the topic shifted yet again, so his mouth closed with a snap. He wasn't even sure he knew who Clarkson and Fredrikson were, let alone if they were dating. For all the rapidity of Ezra's speech, the man still had a soft spoken way of speaking and a nice voice, while the Lunar accent was charming. It was probably a good thing too, otherwise Taliesin might have gagged him by now, interesting stories or not.

With a sigh, Taliesin entered his code to unlock the Armoury door to reveal the mess inside. Lockers and storage containers had popped open, depositing their contents all over the deck. There were phasers scattered across the room, nadion power packs had somehow wound up on top of and behind racks or tossed into corners, and at least a dozen photon grenades had tumbled free of their bin.

"Cachu," Taliesin cursed. "This is going to take a while."

Ezra was frowning at Taliesin's back as they entered the armoury. He was a little annoyed that he didn't even grunt a response to what he'd been saying. He smiled though when he saw the mess and a soft scoff chuckled out of his mouth. "Remind me again who we pissed off to get this tasking?" Ezra tapped the corner of the PADD he was holding against his lip as he surveyed the mess. "Well...it's been fun. But I've been suddenly reassigned." Ezra said in a voice full of mock sympathy for Taliesin's 'plight'. "Ya. Just happened." He said matter-of-factly. "See? Right here." He flashed his PADD in front of Taliesin's face much too close and far too quickly for him to have read anything even if there was reassignment orders listed. Ezra scooted a bit and hip checked Taliesin with a grin before his attention was diverted to the photon grenades. "Ooh, grenades!" He said excitedly.

At the physical contact, Taliesin grinned briefly, figuring he knew Ezra's game now. The hybrid was certainly nice to look at, and would probably be good fun at some other things as well, but for the time being he restrained himself. Certain amusements could be had in the meantime though. "Uh uh, you aren't leaving me with this," Taliesin said, drawing his brows down with mock severity. "And maybe you ought to let me handle the grenades. Just in case one is active, wouldn't want to see you blown clear out of your boots."

Taliesin carefully picked his way into the room and picked up the closest grenade, a bit of dark mischief in his eyes. They were built with too many safety features to become live just from falling off the shelf, but he tossed it underhand to Ezra as if startled and called, "Its going to blow, get it out of here!"

Ezra chuckled as he caught it. He hadn't felt any panic or dread radiate from Taliesin before he had said the words, so had seen through the mischievous ruse. It was difficult to trick the empath on the worst of days. Lying to Ezra was about as impossible as beating Taliesin in a sparring match was. "I nearly failed my grenade quals during training. I think I've only actually thrown two of these, like ever."

"If you like, I'm sure we can find the time to go blow stuff up on the holodeck," Taliesin responded with a quick flash of teeth. It had been worth a shot. He'd have to work harder at that, try to figure out some way to surprise Ezra one of these days. He bent down to gather up more of the grenades and walked over to put them into their padded drawer. He counted the round weapons once they were all back in place, made a notation on his PADD. "You think the Lieutenant knew what this place looked like when she said to go do an inventory, Koenig?"

"I didn't sense that, no." Ezra was currently picking up a handful of phasers, trying to balance them all in his arms. When he stood, the pile had become precarious. He walked them slowly towards a table so he could dump them there temporarily before they could lift the overturned locker. "But it wouldn't surprise me if she'd still pick us to do this if she did know the state of things."

As Ezra gathered the phasers, Taliesin went after the power packs. The Armoury was a bit of a mess, but it wasn't too bad. He would look into ways to keep things more secure in the future; this was one of his responsibilities now, keeping this room organised. "She seems like a good woman to work for," Taliesin said, dropping an armload of of power packs back into their packing crate before looking for more. "You've worked with the Lieutenant for a while. What do you think of her?"

"Honestly I haven't really worked with her all that much. I've been training for the past year which meant a lot of late night shifts and training with the Boatswain." Ezra continued counting and sorting phasers. "And she's only just recently become Chief. She's definitely a dedicated individual. Hard working. Only time can tell what kind of DH she'll be I think."

"Right," Taliesin agreed. The power packs were cunning little devils. A few had worked their way into a ventilation grate somehow, and were being a pain to get out. Some others had sneaked into corners or even cabinets they didn't belong in. Nefarious is what they were in Taliesin's mind. He was definitely going to make some more secure ways to hold all the items in the armoury. "And the Bosun?" Taliesin asked. "I haven't met many people myself yet, I guess getting the scuttlebutt about the important figures 'round here would be a good thing."

"Heh." Ezra chuckled. "He's...very dedicated to his job." He said diplomatically. "Vulcan and a tight ass over regulations, but I don't mind him. A lot of people think he's an arrogant assh--"

=/\=All hands this is the Captain. Set condition blue throughout the ship. All crew members report to your designated landing positions. =/\=

Ezra rose an eyebrow. "Well, that's interesting."

Taliesin was a little disappointed at the interruption, and that it would mean Ezra would be heading out. The other man wasn't the only one who enjoyed his eyecandy. This was Taliesin's station and landing position in any alert status, as the armoury needed to be manned even if like during a condition blue there was likely little need for the phasers.

"Well, I guess I'll finish the rest on my own," Taliesin said, not sounding disappointed about that at least. Work was good. He lifted the last phasers that Koenig was carrying into his own arms, the nadion power packs finally put away. "Thanks for your help, Ezra. Maybe later you can tell me what happened to the Rigellian. The one you said dressed like a cowboy?"

Ezra let out a huge, "Yeehaw!" Then jumped a bit and waved an invisible cowboy hat above his head. "Till next time." He moved towards the door to leave.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't so bad that Ezra was leaving. That over abundant enthusiasm could be just as annoying as it was endearing. Taliesin would have to see just what the enthusiasm was like though during other activities. He'd make his moves later, when they weren't so busy like this. And hopefully he'd have drunk more coffee and taken some analgesics ahead of time.

"Till next time," he agreed, a certain kind of smile on his lips that was friendlier than friendly. Taliesin spared one more moment to watch Ezra go - he really did go well, it was hard not to stare - then got back to securing the rest of the weaponry and to keep watch over the weapons as they landed.

It wasn't that long after landing though that he was called to the bridge. All thoughts of handsome security officers were put aside for the time being as he ran through a mental checklist of what he'd been trained to do when leading the Security Department and manning the bridge station even as he locked the armoury up.
