ON:

Gerrin sat in the rather nice quarters of the ship. He was after all an honoured observer. One whom this alliance wanted to impress or rather, he thought sway. Akkadia kept no Empire, no real territory outside its own home star system. Everyone wondered about that but it was speculation and few had guessed the real reason. Not that the reason mattered, no one in their right minds would even think about invading the Akkadian star system. Oh it had been tried a couple of times but each fleet that had tried had never been heard from again nor had any survivor ever returned to say what had happened.

Of course, it was well known that Akkadians had technology that was light years ahead of the rest of the known worlds. The Fold ships were quite well known and quite envied. Ships which could cross the entire galaxy in a blink of the eye. That alone would be an huge tactical advantage to either side. Ships that could suddenly appear and disappear would be ships that one could not defend easily against. The government had permitted him to show some more of what they could do. The simple stuff, like weapons that made shields basically no shields. Weapons that sliced through shield and ship like the human proverb hot knife through butter.

There was more the A'ksu of his world had come up with and more that they would come up with and especially given a cause. It would seem that there was nothing that Akkadia needed in return but that was not exactly the case either. What miracles the A'ksu had wrought had also nearly so damaged the planet that it was on the edge of sustainability. House Warraquim knew that, and tried to convince the rest that things needed to change but each still eyed the other houses with a deep suspicion that made a united push easy. No what Akkadia needed now was possibly a new home. Worlds that where deep within other's territory that perhaps could be molded. It had been tried before without success but now it was thought that perhaps finding some that were very close that perhaps they could be altered enough to suit the odd Akkadian physiology.

A few had been found that showed promise but again within another's territory and even with their advancements all of Akkadia could not hold off the combined might of a very determined force of either humans or the races that had come together to oppose them. Thus he found himself here on this ship trying to see which way the wind might blow and what extra gust that his people could provide.

"Allyndra you would have run the House much better. You were brilliant and were on the brink of making the other Houses come together. Why? Why? What did the Twins think to have you go? Are the gods only cruel?"

There was no answer in the darkness of the room.
