Mission: Episode 09 - Empires
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Security Office
Timeline: MD 4: 2300 Hours

[On]

Once power had been restored, Gyce had called a meeting of her security staff. They needed to compile and figure out just what happened. No one really knew where the ship was either, which made things a bit more complicated.

Still, Gyce was glad to have gravity back, but her leg ached something fierce once it had. As a result, the instant Gyce sat in her chair in the security office, her whole body relaxed into the comfy cushion.

This was not a time to to become lax, however. There were new faces since the wargames in the department. Along with people she never got to know at all, before. And all of them had her to look to as their new DH... A responsibility she never really saw coming but something she took to because of the situation.

The doors to the office opened a moment later, and Taliesin stepped through at an easy pace. He'd found a chance to change since the immediate crisis had passed, when all hands had been doing what they could to help out with the damage control efforts, and looked relatively fresh despite a tightness around his eyes that showed the tiredness that they must all be feeling.

"Lieutenant," he nodded a respectful greeting and stopped to stand not quite at attention before her, but still somewhat stiffly. He was one of those new faces, only having been on the Galileo a short time, and might have only given an impression so far of being a rather serious man.

Ezra probably looked the worse for wear. Being someone that needed a good solid 8 hours of sleep a night, made him a candidate for the sleepiest looking security crewman at the moment with the lack of sleep so far. Though his eyes were slightly red, and his hair was a bit more tousled looking than usual, his mind was still for the most part working. He was already in the Security office, leaning against the wall rather than sitting. His eyes had followed Taliesin when he'd entered, but now his eyes were on Gyce as he waited for the meeting to start.

"I know we got a lot of new faces after the war games, as well as a bit of a shuffle," Gyce began as she took in everyone. "Normally I'd do the introductions first, but I will save that until after we go through this massive ship crisis. Namely getting a report of each of you about what happened at your assigned posts."

Not one for wasting time, Taliesin took a seat and gave his answer in brief, with only a small amount of colourful language, "There's not much to tell. I was in the Brig, running a diagnostic on the field emitters for the holding cells when the zardik alert started. We rode out the ship bucking as well as we could, then treated a couple of people for some minor bumps and bruises. After that, I spent a couple of hours checking through surrounding sections for any wounded or others that needed help and reported on any hull breaches that might grranvort us up." That the universal translators didn't cover those words was probably a good thing.

"I suppose we all had similar experiences? No unauthorized access alarms during this crisis?" Gyce asked to those in attendance.

"Negative, ma'am." said Tharia from one of the other consoles in the security office.

"Very well then," Gyce nodded and pulled out a translucent digital tactical board. Though she used it for case mapping. "There is a person of interest I want the department on alert with, though she is not to be treated as a criminal just yet."

Gyce used a PADD to transfer a picture of Seleya Qellar on the top of the board.

"Doctor Seleya Qellar. Romulan Biotechnologist and a civilian contracted personnel to our science department," Gyce began. "Since aboard, various security personnel have documented her being in unauthorized areas, and being in close proximity to triggered security alarms. Command Staff will not authorize a search and seizure of her things because the evidence at this point is too circumstantial, but it is my theory that she is trying to either blackmail or harm this man."

Gyce transferred another picture that connected in a blue digital line to the right of Qellar's frame. It was of Oren Idris.

"Doctor Oren Idris. He recently tried to gain entry illegally into Doctor Qellar's personal belongings. When I realized this, I pulled up all the doors and offices Miss Qellar tried to gain entry into... and they belonged to this man. Any questions so far?"

"What is the circumstantial evidence, lieutenant?" Ezra said quietly. He usually stayed quiet during these meetings, but he was interested in knowing what exactly made this woman a person of interest. "Why Doctor Idris?"

"As no one and no security feed can link Doctor Qellar at the point the alarms triggered, Commander Blake declared the evidence circumstantial." There was a roll of the eyes that suggested annoyance on Gyce's part. "This is what we know, however, about Doctor Qellar..."

Gyce drew a digital line going down from Qellar's picture. From which Gyce made bullet points of and wrote out a basic timeline of.

* Doctor Qellar tried to talk me and Commander Stace into illegally handing her a full roster of the science department, prior to her official arrival aboard ship.

* Doctor Qellar admitted she had family ties to the former Tal Shiar.

* Upon coming aboard, three security alarms from Doctor Idris' quarters and lab have sounded, around her presence.

* Doctor Idris tried to gain entry into Doctor Qellar's quarters a few days after the previous security alarm.

* Doctor Idris confirmed after initial questioning that he and Doctor Qellar were roommates at university.

"That is what we know to be hard facts. Doctor Idris was very evasive, however, when I asked if he and Doctor Qellar were lovers. But whatever is going on, it is my opinion Doctor Qellar has something on him. Otherwise, why would he try to break into her property if they are no longer partners."

"Would we be sure we're not getting involved in some sort of lover's spat? Taliesin asked, obvious distaste in his voice. "I mean, one that involves some possible security breaches but poses no risk to the ship or crew? Maybe they just both need to be sat down, given a stern talking to that we won't tolerate their mazark or we'll have to start knocking skulls together." He sounded serious too, that he'd be happy to be the one breaking their skulls a bit to make a point.

"Normally I'd agree, but Detective 101 says that when a person of interest or suspect freely gives up too much information, ninety percent of the time they are hiding something malicious that is either related or unrelated to the issue at hand." Gyce pointed to Qellar's picture again. "She, in our first meeting, told me very openly that her family has close ties to the Tal Shiar. Known subversive opposing intelligence agency adept at manipulation and subterfuge under the guise of welcome smiles. That's why I'm asking that until we know what the situation is, she's not to be ignored. If she's spotted near a security breach alarm again, detain and question her."

"Understood, sir," Taliesin said, eyeing the picture and wondering. He had to agree with the assessment too. He'd dealt with criminals in the past who tried to pull one over on him by talking fast and giving too much. That was the problem with all their types, the former cop thought grumpily. Criminals thought they were so clever, and made so much work for people like this Security team to handle, but in the end breaking the law was a stupid idea.

Gyce saved the case map and cleared it before turning to the others. "We're a team. If any of you aren't sure about a situation, ask. My only concern is to see us perform well and continue to improve where possible."

"If I may make a suggestions?" Taliesin spoke up again. He wasn't afraid to do so. "Maybe what we need here is an old-fashioned stake-out, with a modern twist. They are both onboard a vessel where privacy is not guaranteed, at least not everywhere. We could have ship system's record every move they make, every conversation they have, outside of their quarters. And if they go to each other's quarters again, maybe we can even watch them there. Probable cause."

"I currently use a scanning algorithm we used back in SFCIS HQ, on my personal computer, to track Doctor Qellar's movements," Gyce shrugged. "But it only tracks up to the moment she enters her quarters. Command staff has made it clear to me that we are not allowed to violate her privacy unless there is probable cause. Having said that, I do not mind sharing the scanning program with our security feeds."

Gyce then looked to her department personnel and smiled. "If there isn't anything else, I suppose I'll dismiss you to your duties."
