Mission: Episode 01 - Project Sienna
Location: USS Galileo - Sickbay
Timeline: Mission Day 07 - 14:00

ON:

As she rounded the corner into the Sickbay, Scarlet squeezed the hand of the young child who walked with her. She looked down to her daughter with a small smile, motioning around. "What do you think, Lily?"

The girl glanced around with big eyes, smiling but clearly a little awed by the size and all the beds and equipment too. "The doctor lives here?"

"No, the doctor works here," Scarlet laughed gently as she led her in and looked around with curiosity of her own. Lily was usually okay with check-ups, but she preferred to ease her into it just in case.

Hearing a child's voice, Pola slide her chair back and looked out into main sickbay with a puzzled look on her face. Child? She wasn't aware of any children on-board. Had he or she come on-board at the station? Yesterday had been such a long day, starting at 1100hours and not finishing until well after 0300hours this morning. It was plausible she had overlooked it in her exhaustion. Seeing a child's face peer around the corner of her office door, she couldn't prevent herself from grinning. "Well now, where did you come out of?"

"Boo!" Lily lifted her hands before laughing warmly. "We were on a small boat!"

"Shuttle," Scarlet said gently as she caught up with the girl. She smiled to the doctor, taking a breath. "Hello, we came onboard yesterday. I'm Scarlet Blake, and this is my daughter, Lily."

"Hello," Lily waved to the doctor with a warm smile, but kept close to Scarlet for now. "I'm not poorly," she added with a firm shake of her head.

Biting her lip to hold back a wide grin, Pola smiled up to the young woman who was obviously the kid's mother judging from the protective hand resting on her shoulder. Rediverting her gaze back to the kid, the Doctor eased herself back in her chair, "Well then if your not sick, what can I do for today? Got some tonsils you want removed?"

"No!" Lily giggled at the words but clapped her hands over her mouth just the same. It never hurt to be careful.

Scarlet laughed with her, smiling to the doctor. "We're just here for our checkups," she assured gently.

Getting to her feet, Pola held her hand out to Scarlet. "Well you've both come to the right place so. Why don't you follow me and we'll see what we can manage." Leading the way, Pola choose a biobed furtherest from Dru, not wanting the woman to be disturbed by the child as she was still in recovery. "So tell me Lily, you got anything you want to tell me that you feel as a Doctor I need to know?"

"No," Lily said in the slow and elongated way a child always managed when trying to sound innocent, smiling brightly as she was lifted up onto the bed.

"Not even about all the ice cream?" Scarlet teased gently, watching her with a half smile.

"Shhh!" Lily pressed her finger to her lips with a laugh, her legs kicking lightly backward and forward where she was sat on the edge of the bed.

"In all seriousness, we've never had any major problems," Scarlet added for the doctor, stepping back a little, her hands on the small of her back. "Just the usual childhood scrapes and coughs."

Smiling, Pola pushed a few buttons on her tricorder before handing the instrument to the young child, "Ok Lily. I'm going to get you to do some work now while I talk to your Mammy. If you press these buttons", Pola pointed to a row of them, "You can scan your insides and than we can have a look and see what ice cream it was that you eat." Winking up at Scarlet, she watched as the child took the tricorder from her hand.

Lily was transfixed with the tricorder, surprised she was allowed to touch it, let alone work it. She smiled warmly as she carefully pressed a button and laughed at herself when she jumped at the chirping noise it made.

Scarlet chuckled softly, lookin to Pola with shining eyes. "Thank you, Doctor," she said softly. "She's usually okay with medicals, but we've had the odd troubled session. Thank you for putting her so much at ease."

Smiling, Pola indicated for Scarlet to step slightly to the side do they could have a talk, "It's no bother. It's so rare these days that I get to look after children." Looking back at Lily, she paused for a moment before remembering where she was. "I figure that should give us a good few minutes to be able to discuss both of your medical history. Are you ok with that?"

"That's fine," Scarlet nodded with a small smile to the other woman, her blue eyes easy and honest with the doctor. "I've been poked and prodded enough in the past," she added with a soft laugh. "Lily's been a healthy girl. Just the odd fever here and there. I've been alright for the last couple of years. In fact, most things I have caught, I've caught from Lily," she chuckled, tilting her head with a small smile, but there was a touch of playfulness.

Catching Scarlet's playfulness, Pola smiled back, picking up a PADD from the side but just leaving it in her hands for the moment, "Well from what I can see Lily seems to be a pretty fit and intelligent young girl. I'll run a few scans through just to bring her notes up to date. And tell me, how about her Mammy?"

"I've been fine," Scarlet offered with a small smile, shrugging lightly as she gave it some thought rather than just giving a reactionary reply. "Just tired I suppose, but I think that's just life in general. I'm sure you know the feeling, running this place."

Reading through the notes, Pola was happy to see that physically Scarlet was in quite good condition, with very little history of physical incidents. There was quite abit which would be a cause of concern mentality wise but she would leave that up to Carlsile unless Scarlet choose to mention anything herself. "How have you been feeling physical wise? Any issues with being run down, low on energy or such?"

"Nothing serious," she shook her head with a soft smile. "Just general tiredness at times, not sure if that counts as low on energy or not. I think it's pretty natural," she motioned to Lily with a small smile of amusement, but also fondness.

Picking up her tricorder, Pola started a scan around Scarlet's body, "Is this something your previous Doctor's have looked at? Have you tried taking any natural supplements to see if they help give you a boost?"

"Er, no and no," Scarlet admitted with a soft chuckle, shaking her head. "I've never really thought much about it to be honest. I've always just assumed it goes with the territory."

Uploading the scan to a nearby monitor, Pola picked back up a PADD to look back over previous captures of Scarlet's iron level, glucose and other such readings which would help her identify there the lack of energy issue may lie, "In the 24th century, generally if there is something making you feel unwell, there is something we can do to help." Looking up and smiling, Pola could still hear Lily giggling in the background.

Scarlet looked back to see Lily up on her knees, pointing the end of the scanner she had at the monitor, as if she'd made the readings and scans come up. "Come and take a look," she laughed softly, catching hold of her to rest on her hip so she could see the reading as well, knowing she'd like the colours and shapes if nothing else. "Do you think it's worth trying the supplements?" she asked with a small smile. She'd be willing to give it a go. She could hardly discount it until she had.

"Well there's no harm in trying. As it's a natural supplement of elements such as vitamins and iron it won't disadvantage you in anyway, hopefully it'll do the opposite and help." Smiling, Pola brought up a scan of Scarlet's heart beating so as Lily could watch the movements before moving across to the replicator to fix up the solution. "In the meantime is there anything else you wish to talk to me about?"

"No, there's nothing I can think of at the moment," Scarlet assured but with a soft laugh. "I am sure that will change though. I will probably think of a hundred things to ask this time tomorrow."

Walking back over to Scarlet with the hypospray in hand, Pola smiled gently as Lily watched her placing it against her mother's neck. "It's alright Lily, it's just something to help your mummy be able to run around after you more." Pulling away the hypospray, Pola reached into her pocket and pulled out a lollipop she'd just replicated, "If mummy says it's ok, this is because youve been such a good girl."

"Oh, I think that's more than okay," Scarlet assured with a warm smile, watching the Doctor with gratitude for putting Lily so at ease.

Lily grinned widely, reaching out for the lollipop with excited eyes. "Thank you!" she lifted it to smell, as if she could guess the flavour before leaning forward in her mother's arms to try and steal a kiss on the cheek from her.

Scarlet couldn't help but laughed softly, shaking her head with a sigh. "Affection so easily won, with sweets. A shame it doesn't work so well in adult life, hm?" she smiled gently to Pola. "Thank you, Doctor. We'll let you get on now."

"Ah I don't know. I often easily won over with a box of chocolates", winking, Pola leaned in to take the kiss before pulling back, "If you need anything or you think of those questions, my door is open 24/7 especially with this young one. If I'm not on duty, I'll always have my comm badge with me."

"Thank you, it's very kind," Scarlet said firmly, knowing Pola had to have limited time of her own as it was. "Goodbye, Doctor," she nodded to her with a warm smile as she started to move away.

"Goodbye, Doctor!" Lily called out with a smile, leaning over her mother's shoulder so she could see her, waving her hand with the lollipop in at her.

Waving with a small smile on her face. Pola watched as the doors closed behind mother and daughter. She had to admit, that appointment had been a breath of fresh air but now it would just be back to the grind stone. Letting out a sigh she grabbed a PADD to update the patients files.
