Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 06 - 1530 hrs

Jaana entered Sickbay and glanced around quickly to see if her sister was there. As she wasn't Jaana approached a desk. "Good afternoon, I have a medical exam scheduled."

It had been a very long day. Allyndra looked like she was going to end up with all three shifts though hopefully she could get some time a bit later in Beta and maybe shill part of Gamma off by asking Kohl to stay a bit longer.

Right now the place was devoid of activity and Allyndra leaned back in the chair and closed her eyes. One learned quickly in medical school to take naps when one could for duties like this were not uncommon.

In a few moments she was out and asleep.

A voice, there was a voice that seemed to permeate her sleeping mind and she came to with a start. A young woman was standing there at her desk. Allyndra blinked refocusing on the here and now.

"Excuse me?" Allyndra asked.

Jaana hadn't noticed the woman was asleep until she had already spoken. "I uhm, I need a medical exam." she said.

Allyndra blinked and tried to stifle a yawn but was unsuccessful and quickly covered her mouth with hand. "I do apologize," she said pushing back from the desk. "I have been doing a near triple shift and just dozed off. A medical exam you say?"

Allyndra fumbled for one of the PaDDs to make notes. "And you are?"

"Ensign Jaana Voutilainen" she answered. "Just arrived on board earlier."

Allyndra stopped. That odd sounding surname, since she appeared to be human caught her attention. "You do not happen to be related to Doctor Tuula Voutilainen?"

Jaana smiled. "That's my twinsister."

"Sister? Oh! Well, if you do not mind me saying so, I thought the name unusual. Well pleased to meet her sister. Tuula is one of the new doctors here. I am Allyndra and," Allyndra stood and grabbed a PaDD, "hopefully Tuula has formed a good opinion of me."

"I wouldn't know, although I don't think she wouldn't. I arrived this morning and haven't talked to her jet."

"So...may I call you Jaana? I really prefer to use personal names but if it offends you then please let me know. By the way it is an interesting one. Your file indicates human but though I have heard many Tuula and Jaana I must admit throw me off. Do they have meaning?"

"Jaana is short for Marjaana, finnish for Mary and Tuula means wind in finnish." Jaana looked more closely at the doctor. "If you don't mind me asking, what kind of species are you?"

"Ah! Then there are two of us whose name has something to do with the wind. In Akkadian, which I am, my name is the morning wind or breeze from the ocean." She then pronounced it with the full sing song style that she normally did not use.

Allyndra made a curtsey and partially unfolded the gossamer wings. "Allyndra illm Warraquim, the morning breeze from the ocean of the Guild of knowledge gatherers." She translated her full name.

"Fiinish? I am afraid I am not familiar with that world." Allyndra straightened.

Jaana liked this woman. She was different that other high ranking officers she got to know in the last 10 years. "It's not a world, but a country on Earth. Close to the northern pole. "

"Oh! I do apologize. Northern pole? Ah, not my kind of territory. Akkadians are not homeothermic. Cold regions tend to send us into a stupor. When I visited Philadelphia on last shore leave it was cold and snowing there." Allyndra did not say that she had found other ways to stay warm.

"Here I am talking away. I could do this all day but we need to get your exam in. So may I call you Jaana? I prefer personal names especially since most tend to use my Guild affiliation as a surname."

"No problem at all." she said as she followed the chief to one of the biobeds.

"Well, Jaana, biobed three there. I think the little furballs called tribbles have left that one mostly alone. They do not like Akkadians, just run away rather than have fits like Klingons. Now then, any particular medical problems I should be aware of? Anything new since your last exam?"

Jaana thought for a moment. She had struggled with her weight for like forever, but as doctors had told her for just as long that wasn't a problem. At least not as they saw it. "No, nothing that I'm aware of. Last exams were all good."

"Very good. Now then..." Allyndra took the PaDD. "Lay back and let's get a baseline in. It says here that you have complained about weight issues and yet technically though at the upper end your fine. I take it you have talked to a counselor about it as well?"

Jaana looked with surprise at a moment. How did she know that? Then remembered a previous doctor must have noted it in her file. "Yes, I have" she said, not wanting to go into details of it now.

"So nothing really psychological. Let take a look at your thyroid reaidng." Allyndra waited a moment while the main scan was done and then set for a detailed look of the thyroid area. "Nothing looks abnormal there, your previous lab results show normal TSH levels but just. Jaana, I am going to prescribe a very low dose thyroxine regimen. Sometimes people who register just normal but low really could use a small boost. Let's see how that goes alright?"

"If you think I need it, I will take it" Jaana said, trusting the doctor's judgement as she had no idea what it was.

"Let's give it a try and see me in say a week."

"I will."

"Very good, well your cleared for duty and I will send you off to your next appointment. Welcome aboard," Allyndra waved a delicate hand and nodded.
