Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 6, Enlisted quarters.
Timeline: MD 07, 0530
ON:
Luke had woken himself up half an hour before six making sure that he was dressed and washed immaculately, at the same time as quietly as possible so that he didn't wake Stace. After a quick coffee which he replicated the night before in a therma-flask he hit the alarm clock erupting the room with a very disturbing ringing.
Stace's eyes glared open. In truth, she was a morning person (as morning as morning could get on a starship that wasn't rotating around the sun) but something about the thought of what was about to transpire. She shuffled underneath the sheets and closed her eyes. "I'm not home!" she yelled.
Luke crossed his arms and sighed. "That's fine butbibdiny think a wet and cold bed is comfortable." He bent over and picked up the bucket he had also replicated with his coffee and slowly tipped it onto the bed, the ice pouring over the sheets.
Stace jumped out of the sheets, only a few drops touching her delicate skin. Her nightdress was a little wet but not drenched. Her bedsheets however told a different story. "You idiot!" she bellowed. She squared up to him and clenched her jaw. "It does not take me half an hour to get ready into a PT kit, Wyatt! You can yell at me all you want at 0600 hours. NOT BEFORE!"
Luke looked at Stace unaffected by her anger and shook his head. "I was given the instruction to give you a shock and to re-train you how I see fit, not the other way round. Now you have twenty minutes to be ready bed made and outside the gym in immaculate dress." He stepped back and out of the room making his way to the gym.
She stood there in enraged silence and then sighed, allowing it to fall off her like waters off a duck's back.. She wiped the sleep from her eye and then slowly turned her head, spying Luke's bed. She shrugged to herself, and then climbed in. Muttering to herself, she said, "I don't care," and slipped between the sheets for an extra fifteen minutes.
0600 hours on the dot, Stace rounded the corner and walked into the gym. "On time. As I knew I would be." She feigned a smile, one that was generated by the thought of her having replaced Luke's dry sheets with her own.
Luke smiled "I had no doubt, I was just making sure you was up like any good roomie!" He followed in behind her the circuit he had prepared before hand ready with labels displaying each individual exercise. In the corner was two half prepared flight suits without the helmet. "Your one is on the left and keep in my anything you do I will do to" he walked over and began slipping in.
Stace followed but then looked at him. "What exactly are we doing here, Luke?" she asked.
"Extreme conditioning training as an officer and department head I would expect you to be at your fittest in any given environment in any dress therefor please put on the suit so I can increase the gravity" he smiled testing out the flexibility of the suit.
"I passed the physical aspect of the academy course with flying colours, Luke," she replied, flashing a smile. "I'll give you a run for you money if you match us like for like. And don't go making it easy for me. I'm tougher than I look." She piqued both her eyebrows and began to climb into the suit. She was actually telling the truth in part. She had always excelled in physical activity and enjoyed a challenge. "You didn't honestly think I'd suggest something to Commander Blake that I neither enjoyed or was good at, did you?"
He shrugged, "I doubt that you did but its not Commander Blake taking the training is it" He winked leaning over to the control and increasing the gravity the weight of the suit considerably increasing. "So what you're saying is that you want to compete against me?" He added, in a slightly challenging tone.
Stace almost scoffed, zipping her suit up to the neck. "It's only competition if you're any good, Wyatt." She paused and then started walking over. "And I've got to be honest, I'm yet to see anything that leads me to that conclusion."
Luke couldn't help but laugh as he moved onto the first position "5 minutes on each station, the computer will record your repetition at the end the winner decides the forfeit but don't worry there's no point you thinking of one!" He gave a Stace a wink "Ready?"
"I was born ready. All five times," she answered, taking a similar position. "Computer," she called out, staring straight ahead into the middle distance, "set timer and begin in three seconds. Mark!"
1 hour Later
Luke sat on the bench as his sweaty suit lay to one side, sipping down on his drink he breathed heavily "I haven't done that in a little while" He smiled looking over to Stace.
"What?" she quipped, towel drying her hair on her bed, "finally come someone who can take you on?"
Luke would have laughed but his abs hurt to much, he had removed his top allowing it to dry and had his own towel slung over his shoulders. "Take me on? Please I was kicking your sorry ass all over the place"
"Um," she started with, now dropping the towel and looking directly at him, "I'm not sure at what point you blacked out under the stress, but it seems to have played with your memory. You got your arse handed to you, Wyatt. And by a two-hundred your old."
Rolling his eyes and shaking his head he pushed himself of the bench before throwing his towel at Stace. "Your memory is obviously not as good as it used to be old man" He argued back walking over to his dry shirt and sports bags.
"And neither," she retorted, throwing the towel back to him, "I imagine, is your physical fitness." She paused and then looked away from him. "You're a sore loser."
Luke took the shirt and put it into his bag and pulled out a fresh one "I think when you win it's called being a sore winner, I didn't loose" he teased. Picking up his bag he placed the strap on his shoulder.
"You most certainly didn't win!" Stace exclaimed, pulling on her uniform as she spoke. "Admit it, you're a little impressed."
Luke tut as he began a slow walk to the door allowing her to catch up "I was a little impressed" he admitted rolling his eyes "However the facts still remains that you didn't win" he joked.
Stace sighed and then looked to Jake with an almost stern expression. "Dude, there's no one else here to listen. We both know that I beat you, and honestly, that's fine. I won't tell anyone of your inadequacies."
Luke looked back to Stace and shook his head "I know no one would believe you anyway! And come on otherwise you're going to make me late!" He smiled secretly enjoying himself.
30 Minutes Later
"Listen, numbnut," Stace called out as she was stood in the door frame, the doors already open from her presence, "you can say as much as you want that you beat me, but you and I both know that when you were bent over double trying to catch your breath on that last round of circuits, I was still going for it 'Hell for leather'! That's one of your human phrases, isn't it?" She paused for a moment and then leaning against the frame with her elbow placed her hand on her forehead. "I really don't have time for this, either. I'm due on shift."
Luke was stood across the room his back pressed against the wall to the bathroom "so I guess your backing down your claim of winning?" He joked but before she could reply he put his arms up in a defensive manor "ok ok, maybe I didn't expect you to be quiet as fit as you are, physically speaking"
"I think 'shocked' is the term you should be using, Wyatt. And I'm not sure that says more about your opinion of me... or the inflated opinion of yourself."
"Perhaps let's not think about it at all?" He offered "If I have an olive branch I'd present it to you but I don't so I could give you my sweaty T-shirt?" He smiled pushing himself of the wall "But fair is fair so name your forfeit" he shrugged.
Stace's eyes widened as she clutched the door frame leaning out into the corridor. "You can change our bedsheets back and replicate fresh ones for me for starters," she said, a little smile framing her face. "You might find that yours are a little wetter than you remember them."
Luke walked quickly to his room and sighed "Oh come on, Stace! Really? I'm meant to be teaching you a lesson here," he protested walking back into the room. "I guess I had it coming! What time do you finish your shift?"
"About 1800 hours," she replied with a flare of expression. "That's if I don't work over. But I'll see you about then. You can organise dinner."
With a frown he nodded "Ill replicate something and if you're lucky it wont be rations" He winked before going back into his room to begin stripping his bedding... and Stace's. "Oh and Lieutenant that will be the last time you beat me"
Stace snorted. "We both know that that's not true." And with a smile she vacated the door as it closed behind her.
