[ON]

Having met with the Executive Officer, Tuula went down to sickbay to check off the next person on her list. Lieutenant Commander Allyndra Warraquim, the Chief Medical Officer and her new boss. Tuula didn't know anything about what to expect; all she knew was her name and rank. She didn't even know what species or gender her new boss was, as the name wasn't identifiable to her. She just hoped that the CMO wasn't a Vulcan or a Tellarite -- two species notorious as difficult bosses, for different reasons.

With a messenger bag full of PADDs over her shoulder, she wheeled herself into sickbay. Assuming that the woman working at the desk in the CMO's office was the one she was looking for, Tuula approached.

"Doctor Warraquim? I'm Dr. Voutilainen, your new medical officer," she said, pulling her chair up to the other side of the CMO's desk.

Allyndra knew it was going to be one of those days. One got used to them but a lot of new people on board coming in and things being a bit short staffed but now that seemed that problem would soon be sorted out. She looked up as the sickbay doors opened and saw a young woman wheel in with a chair. It seemed old fashioned to her as Kohl used leg bands and there were robotic replacements but it all depended on what each individual wanted to do. None the less she had already surmised from prebriefing the console that this might be Doctor Voutilaninen. The presumption was proven correct when she wheeled to a stop and then said her name.

"Welcome aboard and it is just Allyndra doctor. I much prefer names than labels. Also and please not as a criticism but as edification Warraquim is not a surname like many. On Akkadia the part after illm means our Guild house affiliation. Thus illm Warraquim means belonging to the house of knowledge gatherers." Tuula politely nodded along, not sure if she fully understood, but getting the important part -- that she should refer to Allyndra by her first name. Allyndra then chuckled, "Well enough of that, welcome and now please tell me a bit more about yourself...do you mind if I call you by..." Allyndra puzzled the name and took a stab, "Two'ooh'la?"

"Tuula," she replied, in a slightly more curt tone than she intended. "Well, you've no doubt seen my personnel files, so you know that I have degrees in biology and medicine, and have served on Starbase 173 for a year. Apart from that..." Tuula paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts. "I play the harp and have done a bit of stage acting. Oh, and I collect antique medical instruments." Among other things she added in her head. The skin on her left forearm was still sensitive from her latest tattoo.

Allyndra listened to the pronunciation and the rest. She wondered briefly if she had done something wrong as the tone was a bit curt. She made a polite nod of the head but decided to press on. A ship check in could always be tiring.

"Very good, and fascinating. I would, if you would not mind, love to listen to your playing. Now though, I need to ask your preference for ship duty time. I myself have taken gamma shift so I have time to do a bit of research. I have two excellent Nurse Practioners on Beta but the most heavily used time during Alpha I have but Doctor Mott on duty. Would you consider Alpha shift?"

"Of course," replied Tuula, pleasantly surprised. Most residents and junior doctors ended up on the least desirable shifts. Of course, the shift schedule mattered less on a starship; with no difference between day and night in space, being on a graveyard shift wasn't so big of a deal. "I'm sure you've gotten a copy of my boarding paperwork?" she asked, . In addition to the usual boarding papers, her paperwork had a file attached describing her abilities and any accommodations that she might require. It wasn't too much; so long as the biobeds were height adjustable models, she could diagnose patients, treat illnesses, and perform surgery with the best of them.

"Good, thank you. And now if I might let me show you around. Of course, feel free to reconfigure the office as needs you. I see this office as something we all share. Now this way, Allyndra came around and headed the opposite direction from sickbay."

She stepped to the side of the door so Tuula had room and said, "While small this is our medical laboratory. Fairly well equipped. Now there are a few experiments I have going at times but I will leave a note if they are not to be disturbed."

"Sounds good, I think I can handle that," replied Tuula as she looked over the equipment. It was much more modern than the hand-me-downs that she worked with in her medical training. Of course, she liked to practice more than she liked sitting around doing research. Tuula was more comfortable peering into someone's abdomen than she was peering into a microscope.

"Now then," Allyndra lead the way out the main lab door past the office and back into sickbay. "Follow me and let me show you our gigantic domain." She laughed lightly and paused when she got past the corridor that went past the office to sickbay. Tuula followed and nodded along with Allyndra's descriptions.

"A total of three biobeds. Biobed one is our specialty bed with more extensive surgical equipment and the ability to be quarantined off if need be." She pointed to the one bed on the far end from the office. "Biobeds two and three are routine examination though some lessor surgical procedures can be done. Oh," Allyndra had quite forgotten since she was here that the little furballs tended to find someplace else when she was in the vicinity.

"Our biobeds seem to attract our little tribble friends for some reason. So if you get funny readings they may be in the works."

"Tribbles? You have a tribble infestation?" asked Tuula, incredulously.

"Unfortunately they seem to have gotten out from someplace. However, while I am around they seem to make themselves scarce. I guess like Klingons they do not like Akkadians very much though there is not the violent reaction, they just tend to try to get away. On another note have you had your check in physical done yet?"

"I guess I might as well get that out of the way," replied Tuula, resigning herself to the checkup. She hated physicals more than anything, but there was no point in putting off the inevitable. "Let me guess, you want me to take a seat on the biobed?"

"The beds are adjustable for up and down and even length but they are affixed so can not be easily taken out of the way. I do apologize." Allyndra knew that some in Tuula's situation did not like help but she offered anyway. "Do you require assistance?"

"No, thanks," replied Tuula as she made her way to the controls for the bed. After bringing it down as far as it could go, she pulled up alongside the bed and activated the brakes on her chair. With her well-toned arms, she lifted herself out of the chair and onto the bed. Having performed this maneuver thousands of times, it was effortless and almost graceful. "Ready when you are, doc."

"Very well and remember its just Allyndra, now then," Allyndra made some adjustments to the scanner. "Anything recent that I should be aware of? Any new medications, allergies that are not in your most recent pre-boarding scans?"

"No, nothing that I can think of," replied Tuula. "As far as I know, I'm in perfect health," she added, smiling. Knowing the importance of staying healthy, she always tried to eat healthy and keep fit, and kept a regular exercise routine.

Allyndra nodded and made a note. She could not help but wonder if some of the research she had been doing might help or not. It had only been partially successful with Kohl but given time she was sure she could transfer some of the Akkadian regeneration properties over.

Allyndra started the scan and paid close attention to the area of the spinal nerves to the legs. Possible, possible she thought but not yet. "Well, got your baseline. So all cleared, and your first official duty shift starts next alpha."

Allyndra made a small dip and a genuine smile, "Welcome doctor. I am sure we will keep you busy."

"I look forward to it"
