Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Crew Quarters
Timeline: MD 01 - 1800

ON:

Pixis was carrying a large cup of raktajino and looking over a data PADD displaying the medical shift rotation schedule when he ran into the Vulcan. Pixis stumbled and almost fell, and worse yet, almost spilled his raktajino.

"I'm terribly sorry." the maxian said, smiling brightly. They were in front of the door to his quarters and he knew he was rooming with a vulcan. "Are you Sakkhet?"

Sakkhet looked across to the crewman before attempting a smile, he had found that smiling was often used by humans and other species as an expression of joy or happiness so he creased the corner of his lips and could feel the odd urge of his lips curving. "Thats correct, and you are?" he asked.

"Finnix Pixis, I'm your new room mate."

Pixis was rather confused by the Vulcan's own forced, awkward smile, but decided not to question it.

"I'm a nurse, I work in medical. You're an engineer, right?"

Sakkhet hadn't thought much to who he would be bunking with, studying the crewman he replied "That's correct, Its seems you have been reading up on our accommodation and me" The comment was meant to gratifying he appreciated someone who went out of their way to know who they were bunking with and what they did.

"Well, I thought it would be best to find out. You know, in case I needed to make any sort of accommodations or anything." the nurse explained sheepishly, suddenly feeling silly for even mentioning it.

"I have never lived with a vulcan. Is there anything I should be aware of or anything that you don't want me to do in our quarters?"

Sakkhet shook his head "I have lived for many years with humans so please there is no need to do anything different to your daily routing. I, though a Vulcan, am usually..." He spent a thought thinking for the best way to say his feelings "down to earth?" He asked questionably.

Pixis blinked, unsure as to the meaning. He had heard it before and remembered that it meant something like a cross between submissive and friendly.

"Sure." the nurse nodded, wondering whether or not he was actually sure.

Sakkhet looked towards their door and then back to him room mate "Perhaps we should continue our conversation inside?" He suggested. Sakkhet despite being a Vulcan tried his best to adapt to the Humanoid culture aboard a starfleet vessel and he was often ridiculed for it by his fellow species but he always wanted to find the perfect line between Vulcan logic and human emotion.

"Ah, yes. You are probably right." Finnix agreed as he opened the door and stepped inside.

"So which bunk do you want?"

Sakkhet looked at each bunk they looked similar in size and almost identical "Which ever you do not" He replied.

Without thought, Finnix walked into the room and scaled his way to the top bunk.

"Thank you for giving me the choice."

Sakkhet nodded "What is your story?" He asked curiously. Sakkhet was always open to immersing himself in the histories of his crew mates, he found it helped get along better.

"Ever hear of a planet called Maxinar? It's sort of near Risa.... Probably not, they're isolationists, very xenophobic. I'm from there."

Sakkhet took the moment to think about the name and shook his head "I do not believe I have heard of your home world, is it worth the visit?" He asked.

"Probably not. It's not that it's dangerous or bad or anything. It's just, the tourest areas aren't that greatest, and off-worlders are not permitted to be anywhere else unless their is a medical emergency. They want to be polite, but they are extremely xenophobic. They don't want outsiders polluting the society.

"I can understand many planets and civilizations have that same opinion even some societies on Earth wish to be left alone. How does your kind take to you being in starfleet?" He questioned.

"I'm not sure. My family had mixed feelings on the matter. They all tried to be supportive while trying to discourage me from actually leaving. My parents aren't the most confrontational people ever."

"As long as you think you're doing the right thing then it is a good thing, even the first Vulcan were outcasts when the joined starfleet but now its as common as Humans." He reassured.

"I know it is. I wouldn't have sought it out, otherwise. Leaving the home world takes a great deal of tenacity and stubbornness, just from the bureaucratic side of things alone. I was on a waiting list for seven months to get a shuttle off of the world and to a station near Risa."

"The single most commonly scary thing for people to face is change and everyone has to face that fear soon enough" He said trying to phrase his words wisely.

"I hope my people face that kind of change very son." Pixis nodded, the ceiling lights causing a bright blue glint in his black, formless eyes as they darted around the room, taking in his surroundings.

"We came close to destroying ourselves like so many civilizations do. But that's no reason to hide forever."

"Some people after great destruction prefer to linger in the past where as others like to race ahead both have their pro's and con's both can be equally rewarding and equally destructive but in the end its all down to time" Sakkhet enjoyed his conversation with his new room mate he wasn't some half witted human that always questioned vulcan logic.

Pixis nodded, wondering what the fate of his world and his people would ultimately be.

"I really would love to see a day where they leave the home world and explore and get exposed to new ideas. Make friends instead of abducting millions of aliens to experiment on. We weren't much better than the Borg back then. But we have changed so much..."

"As I said Mr Pixis time is everything, remaining on the subject of time I must see myself to engineering, it is almost time for my duty shift and I would hate to note be punctual" Sakkhet was grateful for that conversation he had just shared and would definitely bring it up again. He found small talk a very good way of getting to know people.

"I will see you later, then. It has been pleasant to meet you."

"Indeed it was" Was his simplistic reply before setting towards the door and leaving.
