Ellsworth hadn't been able to slip past the dockmaster and his cronies to familiarize himself with the ship any sooner than the rest of the crew, so finally getting to walk through the corridors of the USS Galileo was something of a rush. He was tempted to go off exploring, and he had to pointedly remind himself that business came before pleasure. Usually.

The planetary development lab seemed to be the biggest of the ship's laboratories, though when he walked through the doors it seemed to be virtually deserted. Ensign Solari was incredibly easy to find, as she seemed like she'd stand out nearly anywhere except, perhaps, a forest.

He leaned up against the bulkhead next to the door, crossed his arms and watched her for a moment before clearing his throat. "Ensign Dasha Solari?"

Dasha looked up from where she was sitting on the ground, feeding a bottle of nutrient solution to one of the ship-board rabbits, "Hi, and yes that is me. I'm trying to see if I can give Flopsy some help for his upset stomach. He isn't used to the ship yet, and leaving little piles of rabbit puke all over the place could cause someone to slip. It will either work or he will be glowing in the dark for a few weeks. How can I help?"

Ellsworth laughed. "I'm Ellsworth Hudson, the quartermaster. Just call me Ellsworth, though. I came to make sure your personal effects were being loaded onto the ship properly, but now I think I'm a little more curious about why we have rabbits on board. Is the chef going to cook that thing?"

Dasha shook her head, putting her hands over Flopsy's ears, "My stuff is all aboard. I don't travel with much really - just a violin, longbow and my hedgehog pet. The rabbits are aboard on request as they can be useful as incubators and experimental models. Planetary Development is a nicer place to keep them in pens. We don't like to scare the rabbits."

Longbow? Hedgehog? Ellsworth thought, trying not to let his thoughts be reflected on his face. "Oh, I see. So... They aren't going to be harmed, are they? I mean, being an incubator or an experimental model isn't...dangerous?"

Patting the rabbit, Dasha shook her head, "Hopefully not. Most of the time, we don't actually put anything in them that can hurt, but it is just a weird little thing that they seem to be good at replicating anti-bodies. I am also doing a little research project on allergy anti-bodies. Rabbit fur has a habit of making itchy people."

Ellsworth frowned, recalling an allergy to a similar animal on Betazed and suddenly feeling itchy. It was definitely his imagination, but he reflexively scratched at his arm anyway.

"Seems like you science types have a lot more interesting things to keep yourselves busy with than Ops," he said, standing up straight from the wall and cautiously approaching. He'd once seen a holovid where a rabbit-like creature turned out to be a vicious carnivore so one could never be too careful. Satisfied it was safe, he held his hands out as if to ask permission to hold it. "We've just got a bunch of paperwork. And more paperwork. Scan a cargo container, file a report. Review a personnel file, file a report. Open a commlink with Supply Command, file a report."

"I'm sorry about that.. We all have our own little prosand cons in our work though, just a little different."

Ellsworth cut his eyes to watch her for a moment and then couldn't suppress his curiosity any longer. He'd long had a fascination with Orions, whose famed sexuality and matriarchal society seemed like the slightly less syrupy sweet version of his own culture. "So... I haven't check with the personnel database, but I think we might be the only ship with three Orion women on board. Although I don't know if the Commodore really counts; I think once you get above a certain rank, you're required to forfeit your individual identity and personality."

Dasha laughed, "Yeah, we breed like rabbits.. I haven't actually met the Commodore yet, so not really sure. I am room-mates with Cadet Nesh, who is probably a good idea.. It would be a bit hard for a non-Orion to bunk with one of us."
