Mission: Episode 05 - Solstice
Location: Starfleet HQ - 2nd Floor, Auxiliary Briefing Room #4
Timeline: MD 04 - 1000 hrs

Dea entered the designated briefing room. Still feeling out of place after recent announcements. Before things got any more hectic she needed to meet with her own Department. Since they were on shoreleave she didn't intend to make the meeting last long but she also wanted a chance to discuss matters with them.

For a moment Dea glanced out the window while waiting for her personnel to arrive. It was odd to think her days of simply piloting a starship or auxiliary craft were numbered. This was her first major step in entering a command path with her career.

PADD in hand, Lamar walked in to the briefing room and gave Dea a mock salute before plopping down into a nearby chair. He was anxious to get this briefing over and done with so he could get going on his way home to see his family, and he hoped everyone else would arrive on time. "Congratulations on your promotion, sir," he commented to Mialin while he waited.

"Thank you," Dea nodded with a smile, "I promise I won't keep us here long. Believe me I want some time of as much as anyone else an mine is limited this time around."

Ash let herself in, whistling lightly to herself, but she stopped once in front of the boss. Her long, blonde hair was pinned back in a low roll around the back of her head and her uniform still looked decent even after a night of running to and fro. She gave a quick smile as she got to a seat and dropped down. "Morning..."

"Morning," Dea greeted Rowe with a nod as the Crewman entered the Briefing room.

Once everyone had arrived Dea made her way to the front of the room. "I won't make this long. However I wanted to convey my sincere thanks for your professionalism and performance during our last mission. We face some very tough situation and you all made me proud." Briefly she paused then continued, "As you all know we've had a recent change in command that caught us all by surprise. I want to address you personally because that change affects this department. With my promotion to Galileo's Command staff as Second Officer I'm going to be relying on you now more than ever to keep this department running as smoothly as it has been. "

Fortunately for Lamar, he was a shuttle pilot, which meant his specific responsibilities were restricted to Galileo's support craft. Other ship-wide duties of flight control were usually outside of his jurisdiction, and while he realized Mialin might be more busy now, he didn't anticipate it affecting him very much.

Ash felt slightly awkward. Not because of Dea, but because of the praise.....when Ash had spent pretty much the entire fight against the Borg laid out in Sickbay. Frankly, it had been embarrassing. Hopefully, she'd get her chance to pull her weight in the coming months.

"We're a great group that has done some amazing things. You make me honored to be your Department Head," Dea looked at each and everyone present. Her comments and feeling on the subject were very clear.

"Pleasure to be here," Lamar simply relied courteously. He didn't know what else to say, really, but it was always nice to hear a DH who supported those people working under them. "Oh, before I forget," he suddenly remembered something which had been on his mind recently, "any chance of getting us a new Type-9? I was just getting to know Virginia when we lost her in the nebula ambush...would be a shame to not recommission her with a new Type-9, you know?"

Dea nodded to Darius with complete understanding, "I'll see what we can do about that." She paused the continued, "Everyone use this time to enjoy your leave and relax as much as possible."

"Does that mean a pit party?" Ash grinned at the idea. Cold beer and music in the pit, there wasn't much better as far as she was concerned.

"What's a pit party?" Lamar asked, his ears perking up at the mention of a party of some sort. "Like a regular party...but in a pit?"

"Yeah, like the pit stop...or garage..." she grinned, shaking her head quickly. "Although here, I guess that would be the shuttlebay..." she laughed at the prospect; drinking and dancing in the pits under the birds.

Lamar grinned enthusiastically at the idea of partying in the main shuttlebay. For all they'd been through over the past months, it seemed appropriate enough that they should get the chance to indulge themselves with Galileo's little companions nearby. "What do you think, commander? Can we party in the shuttlebay for one night after the ship's refits are completed?" he asked Mialin.

Dea's question about the party had been answered by Rowe. Apparently she had more to learn than she thought. "I believe that can be arranged. A party is a very good idea," Mialin replied with a smile.

"Good call, Rowe," Lamar said to the young support craft pilot after getting the approval. "Was there anything else you needed us for, ma'am?" he asked Mialin.

"Just keep me updated on the party," Dea replied with a smile, "Other than that you're free to go. Enjoy your time off."
