Mission:
Episode 01 - Project Sienna
Location: USS Galileo - Sickbay
Timeline: MD3 1550hours
[ON]
Needing to get some headway done on the crew medicals, Pola had arrived early for her 1600hours shift so as she could search through the crew files and hopefully arrange some appointments to grab people who would have just finishing up on the alpha shift. The Doctor always found it easier to get people into medicals when they didn't have to drop everything to come to sickbay but rather they were in sitiu anyway.
Picking up a file, Pola noted the name Lieutenant JG Dea Mialin, Chief Flight Control Officer. Chief meant this woman would be on the alpha shift, in theory anyway, so now seemed like a good idea to have her come in.
=^=Doctor Ni Dhuinn to Lieutenant JG Mialin; Would you have a moment to report to sickbay for your medical please?=^=
Dea was just finishing up her shift when the call came, "I'll be there shortly Doctor." Her replacement happened to be enroute to the bridge so Mialin finished up the memo to her staff that she'd been writing. As she got up from the chair Dea nodded to the oncoming Flight Control Officer, "Have a good shift. Call me if you need anything. I've got to report for my physical then I'll be heading back to my quarters." With that Dea exited the bridge. One the turbolift stopped at the correct deck she exited.
A short time later Dea entered sickbay, "Lieutenant Mialin reporting for my medical." She addressed the first medical staff member who stopped to greet her.
Walking across sickbay in order to prep for the medical, Pola re-diverted her course when she saw a woman in a red uniform enter."Lieutenant Mialin, just the woman I've been waiting for. I'm Doctor Ni Dhuinn. Thank you for responding to my call so promptly. I hope I haven't taken you away from anything important." Standing back, the Doctor indicated for Dea to take the closest biobed.
"No Doctor. I was just getting off duty," Dea responded to Ni Dhuinn as she took a seat on the biobed. "Granted its been a long couple of days since I worked multiple shifts yesterday due to our mission. However I typically only work Alpha." She paused, "Besides it will be good to get this out of the way."
Picking up a PADD, Pola immediately noted that Dea was a joined trill. Indicating to the nurse behind her, she requested that a trill diagnostic tool be replicated before turning back to Dea and continuing to read through the notes."Hum...I hope your not over working yourself Dea, according to your notes your only recently joined to Milian? The readjustment can't be easy if your also juggling so much work."
Dea nodded, "I've only recently joined the Galileo before that I was on a bit of a break between assignments. But yes I'm remaining conscious of how much I'm doing so I don't overwork myself. So I take it you're the new CMO for the ship?"
Laughing, Pola shook her head, "I'm not CMO just yet, that title falls to Doctor Hilyer. I'm the ship's ACMO, I only came onbaord today. How are things treating you in flight though?" Taking the trill diagnostic tool, Pola indicated for Dea to roll up her shirt so as she could run a scan on the symbiont.
Lifting up her top as she nodded, "My apologies, that error was mistake its just normally the CMO who calls me in for an initial physical. Anyway things are going fine in flight." Quietly waiting for the Doctor to let her know how things looked medically.
Running the diagnostic tool across Dea's abdomen. Happy that the results were positive, indicating the symbiont was settling well, Pola picked back up her tricorder, recalibrating it to scan the Trill's isoboramine levels. "Doctor Hilyer is up to his eyes at the moment so asked me to help out with some of the medicals. I promise...I know how to work a tricorder pretty well to know that's a symbiont your carrying and not a baby." Wincing slightly at the lame joke, Pola smiled softly at Dea.
"Oh I wasn't worried about your credentials," Dea smiled back, "Really it was just curiosity on my part. And yeah its good to know I'm carrying the right thing. I really don't need any unexpected surprises today."
Runing the tricorder along Dea's body, Pola glanced through the results being fed back. "Aside to readjusting to the presence of Mialin, how have things been otherwise?"
Dea nodded as she responded to the Doctor, "Things have been going well." There wasn't much else to say at the moment. Hopefully the exam hadn't turned up anything unanticipated. However there was another matter the doctor might be able to help her with. Pausing for a moment before she continued, "While I'm here there is one other thing. My ankle and knee have been bothering me slightly. They were fine before my last work out two day ago."
Moving her scanner down to the indicated ankle and foot, Pola concentrated on the scanners readout, "Were you doing anything in particular when this happened or was it just something you became more aware of over time?"
"I don't honestly know for sure. While I've been working out I don't know if I did too much recently but didn't notice it right away or if its something else. All I do know for sure is I was just going about my daily tasks when I noticed it was bothering me," Dea commented.
"Would I be correct in presuming your work outs involve alot of running? From what I'm seeing here it looks like what may have happened is a situation called over supination. Your putting a majority of your weight on the outside of your foot, meaning your increasing the pressure on your ankle and knee. You need to train yourself to put your weight on the full of your foot." Grabbing a PADD, Pola brought up some information which she handed to Dea, "This is a list of exercises you can try. I would recommend you do work on this as it could eventually lead to more long term issues such as arthritis. If you need help with the pain, I can give you some medication."
Listening to the Doctor Dea nodded in agreement with the Doctor's comments, "Yes that's a good assumption. I really don't want it get worse so I'll work on the exercises and something for the pain would be good at least to start. Thank you Doctor Dhuinn."
Smiling gently, Pola nodded her head, picking up her own PADD to update Dea's file, "I'll give you 5cc's of bicaridine now which will be safe with your symbiont. If the pain still persists after that, come back to me and I'll arrange for a more long-term plan to be put in place until your exercises kick in." Walking over to the replicator, the Doctor prepared the medication she required, filling the hypospray as she walked back across.
Dea waited for the Doctor, "I'll check back with you if there are any complication or the exercises aren't helping. Then its time for me to grab some dinner it's been a long day."
Nodding her head, Pola signed off on Dea's file on the PADD and smiled at the young woman, "Well your ready and fit for duty so take care of that ankle and knee and it should be awhile before we need to see you again.
"Excellent thank you Doctor. I hope the rest of your shift is a quiet one," Dea got up of the biobed and turned to leave. With her physical out of the way she could deal with other matters.
