Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 2 - XO's Office
Timeline: MD 09 - 14:00

ON:

Alexion cleared his throat as he stopped outside of the door, taking a moment to run his hand through his hair. He'd settled Laeon into their new quarters and left him unpacking his things. They were smaller than their last set, but at least they had a bedroom each in the quarters, more than he'd expected. He guessed it was because he had a son, and so he was given what was considered family quarters.

He pressed the chime to the First Officer's office. He hadn't been on the ship long, but he wanted to get this done sooner rather than later. Reporting in wasn't something to leave to the last minute.

Double Bridge shifts were now well and truly taking it's toll on the XO. With a large container of raktajino in one hand, and a bottle of stimulant pills in the other, John was desperately trying to resemble something that looked like an awake first officer. As the door chimed, he called out with his normal response.

"Come."

Alexion moved in, but came to a sudden stop as he stood just in front of the door way, the doors sliding closed behind him. He watched the XO with mild surprise, seeing what he was holding, and seeing his fatigue. "Everything all right, Sir?" he asked with gruff concern. It fell out of his mouth as the first thing he said purely by itself, rather than his planned 'Reporting for duty' spiel. What could he say, it was the doctor in him.

"Nothing I can't handle. And you are?"

John replied as he swallowed the two tablets he had shaken free of the bottle, washed down with the biggest swig of coffee he could manage, before settling both the mug and the pill container back down on the desk in front of him, and picking up the next PADD in his list.

"Doctor Alexion Wylde, Sir," he took the padd from his belt and slid it onto the desk for him with an almost apologetic shrug at having to add yet another to his pile. "Transfer orders, from Venture to Galileo>. Reporting for duty."

With a small sigh, John took the most recent addition to the never ending mountain of PADDs in front of him, and quickly scanned over the details in front of him, before applying his thumb print to authorise the transfer.

"Welcome aboard Doctor - Galileo is a small ship, so you should find your way around easily enough - I advise checking in with your department head before long, it pays to keep them happy."

"Oh, I agree," Alexion gave a soft grunt of laughter at that, shaking his head. "I will see him next. I have only just got Laeon settled in."

"Laeon?"

John queried, absent mindedly cocking his head to one side as he heard the name. That was certainly not one that he had become aware of as being part of the crew manifest.

"My son," Alexion provided, clearing his throat slightly. "I wanted to get him inside and unpacking before coming to find you and the doctor. I hope you understand."

The XO wasn't overly fond of children being aboard a starship - whilst it might have been the norm on much larger vessels, John had never thought it a wise move to try and raise a family in space.

"Ah. Very well. A sensible precaution. I presume you are familiar with the regulations for officers with children aboard ship? Off limits areas, things of that nature?"

"Yes, and so is Laeon," he assured, nodding. "I've been dragging him around starships for the last 20 years, he knows better."

Twenty years made John feel a little more at ease - for a moment he had been expecting to discover a toddler parading the halls of the Galileo at some point soon - at least by the age of twenty any person should understand how to behave on a Federation vessel.

"Very well. I will trust your judgement. If there's nothing further that you need from me Warrant Officer, you are dismissed."

"Thank you, Commander," Alexion nodded seriously before making his way out. At least the first step was done with.
