ON:

"Thank Goodness that's over." Cyrus said loudly as he walked into his quarters. Having just gotten off his shift for the evening and was more than ready for his good night's sleep. Watt would be just about to head out the door.

"Morning chum." He called to Watt as he walked over to their replicator for some tea.

"What's over?" Watt asked, looking up from his PADD.

"My shift that's what... and the debrief... oh and that damned survey. I'm telling you James that planet is not a happy place. No amount of chipmunk sounding people are going to change that." He flopped loudly into one of the chairs and yawned as he stretched his arms out to either side.

Watt laughed. "Chipmunk sounding people?" he asked, interest piqued. "Where did you survey and why did I miss the sentient lifeforms?"

"The atmosphere contained helium, everyone sounded like they were sucking on balloons all day." He chuckled remembering Liyar's Vulcan voice and his high pitch yelling. turning to Watt he sighed. "I got stuck by a lake taking rock samples." He explained. "We were ambushed by some group of six-legged dog things. They were really smart to. If it wasn't for Liyar's mind meld telepathy crap, we might have lost someone."

"So, I didn't miss out on any sentient aliens?"

"There was a screaming caterpillar." He replied after a minute of thought. "And fish. The only sentient thing we saw were the things that were trying to kill us." He chuckled absently.

Watt smirked, giving an amused snort and leaning back. "What...?"

"Dead serious. A screaming caterpillar." Kiwosk He scrunched his free hand two about an inch and grinned. "And stark white. The damned thing wouldn't shut up. Liyar thought it was a defense mechanism. I just thought that it was screaming at Liyar." He couldn't help but snicker.

Watt tilted his head back and laughed. "Probably," he said, "I think most animals would scream at vulcans if they could. So then, I take it the mission was a success?"

"Well, the wolf thing is in testing, as are the other samples. I guess success is what you'd call it. " He sighed and rolled the mug in his hands. "I get the feeling like we shouldn't be prying around these planets, you know? Everything has been relatively hostile...why should we push our luck?"

"We're Starfleet, a little danger shouldn't deter us, right? We all knew the risks when we signed up, but I'd say it's worth it."

"I'm all for risk. I was a marine, remember." He stated. "I'm all for fighting and defending the ideals of the Federation, but I also know that when an entire planet is telling you to leave it alone...you should listen. The Borg almost wiped us out because we didn't listen and we jumped into that problem thinking we were prepared for it. The Dom war too: If it wasn't for the Cardassian civil war, we would have been toast, especially once the Breen showed up." He explained.

"We should at least be a little more cautious...you know...since our former Chief Security Officer got eaten and all."

Watt frowned at the mention of Stone. "Maybe," he said, "it really doesn't matter to me if we stay in this system or not. But even if we feel like we don't belong here, I'd say we humans make a habit of belonging in places most think we should not, and we're usually successful."

"Usually, but it tends to be a bloody and no one really wants to talk to us for a few centuries. " Kiwosk grumbled, but Watt had a point. Exploration and discovery weren't easy things to come by. "Don't you have a job to go to?" He asked suddenly, realizing that he was keeping James.

Watt laughed. "No, not until beta shift. I should get some sleep though."

"You and me both brother, 1500 comes way to damn fast."
