Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Security Office
Timeline: MD 07 1100

ON:

Petty Officer Christoph walked through the security office. A fairly normal day with no issues for Security, but she knew that that could change at any moment. She, herself, had just completed an inventory of phasers in their designated standby locations across the ship. Keeping all the phasers in the armory was never a good idea, she had thought.

Bree reviewed the PADD as she approached the Chief's open door. Stopping at the doorway she tapped a knuckle on the frame.

Rhodes looked up from his work to see a cheerful smile on one of his crew. "Come in Bree."

Christoff stepped in and up to his desk extending the PADD toward him. "Everything checks out Sir. All phasers are accounted for and fully charged."

"Thank you." Theron replied accepting the PADD and looking over the details then setting it aside until later.

Christoff turned to go, but then turned back to the Chief, "Sir. You wanted me to remind you about that emergency response training."

Theron looked up and leaned back. "Tactical Response Team." he corrected. "Yes, I need to call in Kiwosk and get those details worked out. Are you interested in training with them?"

Bree stepped back and leaned against the doorway. "No. I don't think so. That is until I see that they are trained. I'd rather not get shot in the back by accident. If you know what I mean."

"Petty Officer Christoph," Rhodes teasingly began, "I have full faith in Chief Kiwosk to train these scientists and technicians to back us up." He then added, "If and when necessary."

"If you say so Sir." Bree responded.

"Alright now. Get out of here and let me work." Theron berated affectionately.

Christoph gave a little salute with two fingers, turned, and walked out of the Chief's office.

Theron rummaged through a couple PADDs until he found the one with the current planned procedure for the Tactical Response Team. After looking it over for a couple minutes Rhodes touched the comm, =^= Chief Kiwosk, would you come to the Security office, at your convenience? =^=

Cyrus ears perked up as he let another heavy punch dent the training bag he was using. "Computer end program." Grabbing his towel he wiped his head as the world around him shimmered into the familiar yellow and black checkerboard pattern of a holodeck. Rummaging through his bag he pulled out his comm badge and tapped his gently. "Kiwosk to Lieutenant Rhodes. I'll be there in ten." Figuring that he might as well clean up before seeing his commanding officer.

He shoved the towel into his bag and pulled out his water bottle. As he rose the bottle to his lips he began his trek to the sliding door that would eventually lead him to his quarters that he was still sharing with PO Watt. Everything was the more or less the same after Pola left...

But it still didn't feel right. He shrugged slightly, pushing it to the back of his head once again for what seemed to be the thirtieth time that morning. He still had a job to do, and he knew that she did as well. Once she had reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander, it wasn't a safe guarantee that Pola would stay on board. It was something that he would have to except.

The doors to his quarters swung open and he gave his gym bag and water bottle a slight toss onto his bed as he began to strip off the sweat stained olive green shirt he was wearing. He stepped into the shower and began feeling the sonic microwaves scouring his body clean. It wasn't the same as a normal shower, he missed the hot water and the steam that would help clear his nostrils, but water showers were luxuries that non commissioned officers rarely received, so he just decided that it would be better off just to bear it.

Pola had a water shower....

damn it Cyrus you're a grown man, not a love struck teen... he thought miserably to himself. Deciding that he was no longer going to continue his frump, he pulled out a clean uniform, and made his way for the Security officers.

As he stepped into the security office he set a mug of coffee down in Aria's desk. "Got you a present boss lady." He told her.

Aria looked at him before grinning, her eyes warm. "Sweet! Coffee...God, I need it," she said, her hand reaching for it as she sighed softly.

Cyrus couldn't help but laugh heartily. "So, is Rhodes in his office? He called me in early. I hope I'm not getting fired again." He said half joking, the last time he had been called in on a personal note, he had his position and clearance revoked with little reasoning behind the incident.

Aria chuckled as she nodded, her eyes shining. "Yup, he is working hard..." she said softly. "Can't blame him, you know."

Hearing the conversation outside the office, Rhodes looked up from his busy desk and raised his voice, "Come in you two."

Cyrus nodded, not having looked into the office he had no idea that Theron had already be seated at his desk. "Yes sir." Was all he said as he approached the doorway of Rhodes' office.

Rhodes set the PADD down on the desk when they entered, "Have a seat, please." Theron said, leaning back in chair with his hands across his chest.

Aria smiled gently as she sat down, watching Rhodes closely.

Theron spoke up, "Let's talk about the TRT and the process for implementation."

The ex-marine couldn't help but breathe out a massive sigh of relief. "And here I thought I was going to be punching trees again." He joked.

The comment brought a smile to Theron's face. He vividly recalled Cyrus doing his best to kill a tree.

"So The TRT...well I have the ground rules down, but the actual instruction will be left to Captain Fernandez. We could probably bring him up here so he could fill in the gaps that if you'd like. "

Rhodes nodded, "When the time comes. Please continue with the overall strategy of the program." He looked to Aria and back to Kiwosk.

"Sounds good to me." He replied. "The people that have any hope of qualifying have been selected, they are just waiting on the message saying the time and place that the testing will take place. I'll have that forwarded to you with Captain Fernandez hasn't already." He grinned as he got down to the heart of the matter. "The testing is simple: A physical aptitude test, an accuracy test and a simulation on the holodeck. I think we have almost a dozen or so applicants, and the originally size of this team wasn't supposed to pass six." He set his PADD down and slid it over to Rhodes. "I'm thinking that we break the group into two and we'll set them through two identical situations and then observe their actions and grade them on their performances in all three parts of the exam."

Rhodes commented, "It sounds like you have the applicants already. You are just waiting for someone for the go ahead?"

He nodded. "A lot of people volunteered after our little escapade with the SFI..." Cyrus didn't think he needed to continue his train of thought. Everyone knew what had happened that night especially with Kiri and Smoak.

Instead he coughed and continued. "Most of the applicants had already volunteered. I figured that the testing itself will eliminate the majority of applicants." He explained. "And if not, then we'll have to sit down and pick with you, me, the Captain and Captain Fernandez..." He sighed. "Hopefully it won't have to come down to a lengthy meeting on who to keep and who not to keep, but Ray will know more about what he will be looking for and explaining." Kiwosk finished.

"What about you two...you have any suggestions as to the actual testing or anything?"

Aria kept quiet for a moment, considering it. "It will depend entirely on what we are allowed to do," she said softly.

The Chief looked at Aria and back to Cyrus, "I have no problems with any of this plan." He picked up a PADD and flipped through the written proposal that had been documented some time before. "I read it here, but I want to make sure it is understood that this force that is being assemble and trained will be under Security Control and not some external Marine force that I may find myself fighting against." Theron looked sternly at Stark. He hoped that his fear was not showing too much. The possibility of a secondary armed group that could be pitched by another command staff against the security team sent chills down his spine. Some might scoff at the possibility, but to him it was a real concern.

Cyrus blinked, then shook his head. "The only people that have the authorization to use this team would be yourself and the CO, XO and 2XO, and the XO and 2XO have to be in dire need of security personnel to use the TRT. They are not being trained to be marines, just rapid response and defense, we're not making Commandos." It was the same concern that Stone had and Cyrus was familiar in how to deal with it.

"I see." Rhodes replied cautiously. Looking to Lt. Rice, "I appreciate your input, but do not want to hold you up further. I'll finish the detail with Cyrus." He didn't want to dismiss her, but he felt he had to convey something one on one.

"Sure," Aria stood easily, giving a quick salute. "Sure thing," she said and left.

After Rice left the office, Rhodes pressed a button that closed the door to his office. He looked at Kiwosk for a moment and finally said, "Well, you have made my point. My deepest concern is that the TRT will be called into action by an officer of the ship and used as a weapon against the ship's own security force."

He had to admit, Cyrus was surprised by Therons' train of thought, but given what has happened in recent days he couldn't blame the new Chief of Security for taking the extra precautions. "Well, unless the Captain decides to attack her own Security officers I think it's safe to say that we should be okay in that department." He explained, chuckling at his own joke.

Theron was not concerned about the Captain as much as the one of the other senior officers or replacement officer that might be posted on the ship. He wanted to make it very plain. "I would like you to include in the training program tactical practices with security officers leading these teams."

Cyrus nodded, his face now serious. He wanted to make sure that the Tactical Response team would be led by Security and only Security, and in the case that Cyrus was incapacitated that there would be a way for security to continue leading the group. "I'll make the arrangements sir."

Rhodes sat back in his chair and let out a sigh. It was like a great weight was lifted from him. "Now as far as time for testing and training, I do not care if it is done during their duty hours or during their off time, but if it is during duty hours, you need to get their department head's authorization first. This detail is all volunteer and cannot detract from their regular duties."

"Understood, I've spoken with the Department heads, they understand that it might come to that, and I explained that I will inform them of the schedule once it has been finalized. It looks like the majority of the volunteers are on alpha and beta shifts, so if all goes well, we will try to have the tests on gamma, but if that's the case, we might have to break them up over a couple days. We want quality work out of everyone...and that won't happen if we try to do everything all at once." Kiwosk was trying hard not to let his excitement get the better of him. It was finally happening! It was going to be something amazing once he got to review the final product.

Rhodes tried to distract himself and straightened up his desk a little as he thought. He finally looked to the Chief, "Prior to the deciding process, I would like you to review the results of the testing with me before the selection process is complete, and then again after the team has been selected." He smiled slightly, "I just want to be on top of the situation. Fair enough?"

Cyrus nodded, but spoke up. "I want your suggestions on this whole process, and if you were able, it is always better to have more than one person in the selecting of a team that is an off shoot of Security. If you wouldn't mind, I would love to have your expertise Lieutenant."

"Of course. I would me more than happy to help." Rhodes replied. "What other preliminary things need to be covered?"

"Well, testing and setting up the simulations. I need a couple of programs to run on the holodeck, and then there is the stress test. I don't need any of these people breaking in a situation they typically wouldn't find themselves in. I was hoping to throw them into a simulation where they would have to deal with high stress environments that will really place emphasis on their crew skills and cross trained skills."

Theron quickly made some notes as Cyrus was going down his list from his head. "This all sounds excellent. So, we need to bring in someone from medical for the stress evaluation. I know a petty officer that is very good at setting up holodeck simulations. She loves to create realistic simulations." Extending an hand toward the Chief, "Well, you know Christoph. She can be rather intense at times."

Cyrus nodded and grinned. "If they can't handle intense they shouldn't be on the team." He replied slyly. "I'd say she'll be perfect."

"Very well." Rhodes then asked. "Anything else we need to cover?"

"Nothing that comes to mind, boss." He answered. "Anything else will be better discussed with Fernandez. Should I send out the message for the testing?" Kiwosk asked.

"Yes." Rhodes replied, "Begin the process and keep me informed."

"You got it, Sir." He said, finishing with a nod.
