Change of Scenery

Posted on 14 Dec 2015 @ 4:59am by Ensign James Langley

356 words; about a 2 minute read

A recent entry in the journal of James Langley. Curiously this entry, as well as all the others, are typed on paper in Federation Standard Braille rather than logged by the computer. To James the tactile nature of the words conveys more emotion than mere text or voice. Every time an entry is read it is felt exactly as though he had just written it.

There's a ship coming through in need of recruits. Apparently the intelligence department is sparsely populated. I dare say this is damning of the intelligence of the crew as a whole, but I only jest. The department just hasn't been the focus of their recruitment needs. But there is an opening, one I will gladly take. Due to recent events this Galileo needs all the help it can get and it is help that I am more than happy to give.

It's been a few months, but I think it is time for me to leave this place now. There is nothing left for me here. I know these people. I know these walls and I know these rooms. But it all seems so empty now. Everywhere I walk. Every where I go. She should be there. But she isn't.

To see her face around every corner but to not be able to hold her is becoming too much to handle. This whole station seems to seep with her spirit and it comes as no surprise to me as to why. She could light up the lives of hundreds of people, but now that she's gone the station merely mourns her loss as I do. Just figments of what once was.

I have to get out of here. It's not that I want to leave her, It's just... It's just that she's already gone. I can't stay in the place that reminds me of all the bad that has happened. I need to pack my bags. I need to stow the good that she has brought me and jettison the negative. Perhaps this change of scenery will be good for me.
