Xanth Personal Log, 67568

346 words; about a 2 minute read

"Another night spent obsessing over the vortex and I still have nothing to show for it. Well, that's not true. I know almost everything there is to know about it's structure since I started to get some match ups on the computer simulations. It's still the matter of finding the right combinations by guesswork, but I've already mapped out the internal geometry, the gravitic currents, and the decay parameters. It could have taken months to get this far just by trying to pop in likely variables like I've been forced to do, so I guess I got lucky."

"But that doesn't mean I understand it. Not yet. There's something missing still. The biggest surprise I found was that due to the way the vortex altered space-subspace boundaries was that it has transdimensional properties. That makes me worry. With sensors still down I can't confirm anything, at least not by visual observation without a telescope. But if I'm right about this than we might have moved more than just a couple of hundred kilometers when we went through the vortex."

"I've kept this part out of my report, for now. It's all conjecture at this point; just because the singularity shows some potential for dimensional shifting doesn't mean that's what happened to us. A scientist doesn't leap to conclusions, not without a whole lot of falsifiable evidence to back up a claim."

"In any case, I've reached an impasse in my study of the singularity. I've gone over all the data that we have more times than I can remember, and I'm pretty sure I could quote the numbers without even looking at a reference now. As soon as I can get confirmation from astronomical markers then I can verify my suspicions and figure out the last pieces to this puzzle. That'll take some time too but I'm confident that I can pull it off."

"I need to get some rest. I have bridge duty this evening and want to be my best when I'm there. I can't shake this feeling though..."

"Computer, end log."
