328 words; about a 2 minute read

ON:

Allyndra combed her hair out. The strokes through the long black streaked with metallic blue shone even in the subtle light of quarters. There was nothing like Ring Rise but she could not completely simulate it here.

"Computer, please open log." She said as she continued to stroke her hair with the brush.

[Log open]

"Well it has been an interesting time. In some respects being on the bridge and in command has brought up long memories of when I did that before. In some cases like slipping into a pair of old slippers.

However, that is not my intent for this log. For some reason I am reminded of another one of our tales. It is about a group of mythical beings that were thought to come from the days when the fog would roll from seas. The were called mist maidens, the Ul'iawi. Anyway, one tale of the Ul'awi is about one called Rhailya and goes something like this:

It is I Rhailya, who touches with mist the crystal pane of your window lit by the pale rays of the moon.
Rhailya begged her lover, the man of the land, to place a ring on her finger and come live with her in her home beneath the sea.
He refused, saying that he loved another.
Rhailya lauhged, then cried and disappeared in the sweeping wind of mist.
Rhailya who had been denied a soul unless she could win forever the love of a mortal man.
Alas, a task which she could never do. For the gods and goddesses had been cruel, for a man being mortal could never love forever."

There was a long pause and then Allyndra took up the log again, "Sometimes I wonder if I am like Rhailya the Ul'wai, trying to find the love of another. Like her I still hope though and hope that the task in not one that will be like her endless quest.

End log"
