There are boring personal logs in the universe, but the all time worst are the ones where you switch the recorder on, and then walk away. It becomes like that video your dad wanted to take of 'daily life' so hypothetical future generations could look back and see how you went about your life.

Such was Pax's latest log. If one were to watch, they would see a chair half turned with no occupant, hear music on the other side of the room, intermittent, stopping and starting. Then see a blur of someone out of focus cross the screen in her uniform, headless in the frame. Then lots of muffled singing from the bathroom, and minutes later, she crosses again in a towel, hair dripping. Forgetting she left that thing on, she changes. Is the lens blurry or is she kind of furry? Possibly both. Her off duty clothes are plain, a dark olive teeshirt and drab pants full of pockets.

Next are a series of stretches and handstands. A half an hour later finds her sitting in front of the camera, still oblivious to the little red recording light, as the computer witnesses her sitting in the chair with her feet up, the combat boots taking up most of the picture, while she is sharpening a knife along a whetting stone. She is only humming now, in a rhythm with the swipe along the stone, seemingly thinking of something far off in space or time, now scowling, now smiling.

She sheaths the knife and leaves the frame. There's no telling how long you will have to wait to see anything else.
