Counselor/Medical Officer's Log # 24 - "Putting Out Fires"

I'm trying to keep a clear head, because shortly, I'll be returning to Lyshan III. More specifically, I'll be heading with several others back into the mines to investigate the computer processing center, which controls the mining equipment computers. I'm hoping the computers will give us a better idea of what's underlying the mysterious sightings, readings, and disappearances, and there is a certain sense the computers will give us a more objective picture of what's going on than our interviews, but that has yet to be determined.

Given how frustratingly inconclusive our first investigation was, at least in terms of medical and psychological findings, I am more guarded in my expectations this time around. My gut tells me we aren't looking at a mass delusion or biological hazard, but the scientist in me knows better than to give all power to my instincts. The therapist in me also knows better than to completely trust a conclusion based on limited information, as just because we couldn't get more information, it doesn't mean there wasn't more information to be gained.

By no means do I fault myself or the rest of the team for not getting more to work with. We are all working as hard as we can to find answers, and that hasn't been easy given the horrors we've seen and the loss of one of our own. Without breaking confidentiality, I can say this mission has opened more wounds for the crew than I can recall in a very long time. I am more than a little frustrated that some of the crew have continued to make the same mistakes repeatedly at the risk of their own continued service in this especially difficult time, but I also know it's as much a reflection of what we're going through as it is their on-going challenges.

Right now, I feel like there a fifty fires to put out, with enough tension to create fifty more at any moment. If only they were the kind of fires that would make the damn EVA suits useful.
