First Officer's Personal Log,

We shall shortly be arriving at the starbase as expected...although the journey was not entirely without incident...it seems that the Klingons were ready for something to go wrong - and as always...it did. For some reason, our warp drive decided that the middle of Klingon space would be the perfect time for it to have a relatively catastrophic failure...suffice to say if Quinn and his teams hadn't been up to their elbows in warp coolant, we'd have had a very quick end to this mission....

The weekly senior staff meeting has given me some cause for concern as well -it seems that we were either the victim of some particularly shoddy manufacturing before the Galileo left drydock, or someone on board is deliberately sabotaging our systems. So far I don't have enough evidence to move towards either theory as being the right one...but I can't take any chances. For now everyone is a suspect, from the CO right down to the enlisted crewmen..mark my words however, if I find out one of our crew is indeed working to slow our progress....then they'll have a date with me, and an airlock.

On a lighter...and yet still darker note...our new CMO seems to be settling into her role quite well - even if it does seem to involve her paying somewhat regular visits to my quarters in the middle of the night. Whilst I am all for having discussions with senior crew, it should be noted that this doesn't always include the moments right before I am planning on going to bed. I may have to have a word with the young doctor if this carries on - it could be possible that she is forming some kind of....*sighs* relationship with me, in her head....of course this would be in breach of Starfleet policy and half a dozen different regulations...so as XO I would be required to rebuff her for this and place a note in her record should it be necessary.

For now I will let things lie, in the hope that it it just a misunderstanding on my part....I've never been the best with women...especially those under my command.

Once our resupply at the starbase is complete, it'll be time to come hard about and race back towards Earth....part of me is secretly hoping the Klingons try to stop us...I've been itching to try out these new tactical systems....Lieutenant Orexil seems to think that we'd be blown into a million pieces by the first disruptor blast...but I disagree...we may be a science vessel, but we outgun pretty much anything else our size...and the day I see a Bird Of Prey resist a full spread of our quantum torpedoes, well that's the day I finish my career in Starfleet.

Bring it on is all I say.

Computer, end log.
