Ecologist's Personal Log #3: I'm Not Going To Add To Their Biological Distinctiveness

I know it hasn't been long since my last log, but a lot's happened here. Specifically, the Borg arrived. We were having a staff meeting with Captain Saalm, investigating what had happened to the Venture, when this huge - thing, it just appeared and started tractoring us. They said it was a probe, but it was bigger than most ships. And when we tried to escape - well, we just ended up running into a Borg cube. Really. A Borg cube. Everyone was freaked out because it was a "tactical" variant. I think any kind of Borg cube is pretty damn scary, but whatever!

So, why am I writing a log, and not Borg drone Natalie of Nine or whatever? Well, they sent drones on board, but for some reason they stopped trying to assimilate us after a point. I don't know what happened on the Bridge, but we're in some kind of tractor lock and the drones that are on board - oh yes, they're still on board - are leaving us alone. Leaving us alone now. They weren't yesterday, though: they broke into the Science Lab and chased me down the corridor. I haven't see Tarishiana or Ariadne since, and I don't know what happened to Jared but I heard he was - taken. I don't even want to think what that might mean.

I escaped from the lab and ran away. I got as far as the Arboretum, but one of them managed to follow me. I thought I was going to get assimilated. I swear, it was the worst thirty seconds of my life. I couldn't do anything, and it was right on top me - and then it just slipped and fell into the pond. I guess the mud or the water or whatever - the downside of having electrical bits poking out of your skin. I felt so pathetic, though: if it hadn't been for a slippery bank, I'd be dead or worse right now. I think I need to see someone from Security/Tactical about doing some training, so I'm better able to defend myself. Not that that would help a lot against the Borg, I guess.

One good thing is I found out that Lieutenant Stace is alive. She was one of the survivors. I didn't really know her well on the Venture or anything, but it's nice to see at least one friendly face with so much change around the Science Department right now. I think she's going to be staying with us a while: joined Trills are always such fun, they have so many stories. But who knows how long we'll be together: I know nothing about the planet the Borg are taking us to, and with so many systems damaged, science systems aren't exactly a priority. Once they're up, I guess I'll help out as best as I can. Jac should be helpful: he seems to know his way around the sensors.

And until then? I guess I'll just have to do my best not to get assimilated.
