Captain's Log, Stardate 66117.9

After receiving my orders from Starfleet, I'm now hesitant to depart on such a sort schedule. Although my assignment is classified, I can almost say for certain that this won't be an easy mission. The dock workers and engineers are doing their best to prepare the Galileo but I know that we won't be one-hundred percent before launch day. The only consolation I have is that my new crew seems very capable. So far, all of my senior officers are experienced and have strong service records. I seem to be the youngest out of all of them.

Lieutenant Commander Holliday is my new XO. He comes from a tactical background and specializes in Starfleet combat. I get the feeling he's not thrilled to be on my ship and would prefer an Akira or Sovereign instead. Sigh. But he appears to be very knowledgeable and competent, and I'm nonetheless happy to have him as my First Officer. I'm sure he will give me good insight into the many volatile situations to come.

My Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Hilyer, is also very skilled. I recently traveled to his family's plantation in Savannah, Georgia to visit him personally. He is a nice man and well-mannered, which says a lot about someone. He's been serving in Starfleet for a long time but I think his last assignment was difficult for him to recover from. I haven't asked him about it personally...not yet. But from the Starfleet records I reviewed, his ship was destroyed in combat and his captain died at his side. I can only imagine the pain of going through an experience like that. I hope the Doctor can put it behind him and come out the other side a stronger man. Regardless, I know that he will perform well in his duties and I'm happy to have him aboard.

Chief Warrant Officer Quinn is the last of the senior officers who I've met and I'm very impressed with him so far. He's an older man and might sometimes be a bit grumpy but I find his quips and jokes to be hilarious. He is the most experienced of my entire crew and his service record is phenomenal. I'm surprised he's still a warrant officer, to be honest. I'll have to be sure to reward him properly if he can get my ship up and running in time for departure. I'm very confident in his skills and I will be depending on him heavily this mission.

In the meantime, I'm heading out into the city to find myself a companion for our journey. I know Humans are quite fond of dogs but I personally find them to be a bit...high-maintenance. Perhaps something a bit smaller but still furry would be nice...

Computer, end log.
