Reunion

603 words; about a 3 minute read

A Year before Serran's arrival to Galileo

I never thought I'd ever see Finn again or even hear from him for that matter. And, if I'm being honest, after I'd gotten over his closing the door on us, I had no intention of opening it up again.

To say I was surprised when he reached out to me would have been an understatement. His invitation came out of the blue, or left field, or whatever popular phrase from my adopted world.

Theo and I were on a two-week leave and were visiting my parents at our home, well technically their house now, in San Francisco, when I received the invitation

~Serran, it's me. I don't have to tell you who. You know my writing, like you know everything else about me. Good and bad. I have a lot of regrets, and we both need closure. I know you're here now. Let's meet. Tomorrow at 1900 at Benjis

It would have been the logical and intelligent thing to ignore Finn's invitation, or to decline his request and politely tell him to not contact me again.

I am Vulcan, I am supposed to be guided by logic, to not give in to my emotions.

I always make an effort to do so, and I am usually successful in that endeavor. But this was Finn. Before our relationship turned toxic, it was good. More than good. Despite the fact he'd hurt me, and despite how things had turned out, I still have an emotional connection to him. I am no longer in love with him, but I still love him.

So, I was undecided as to the best course to take.
“”Universe to Serran, universe to Serran I mean dad,” Theo's voice interrupted my thoughts. “What's going on? You look like the time you had to clean up my puke.”

I did my best to keep an impassive look on my face. I was successful but it took a great deal of effort

Did I not ask you to prepare some lunch,” I replied without answering his question.

“I did—grilled cheese sandwiches. You said we were supposed to be 100% honest with each other. That doesn't sound like you're doing now “

I shook my head. A fourteen-year-old had just nailed me.

"You are correct, I admitted, I am not being forthright with you."

"I held out my PAAD. "I just heard from Finn. He wants to meet."

"You mean the man who screwed you over figuratively and literally?"

"That is the person I am referring to, yes."

"Please tell me you told him to go..."

"I know what you were about to say," I interrupted him. "We don't use that language in this household. Besides, it is complicated."

"So, what did you say to him then?"

"I have not yet decided how to respond."

"Well, that's logical," Theo retorted. "And mature."

"Theo," I warned without changing the pitch of my voice.

"Sorry, but it's true. He is playing with your emotions. Right?"

"That's a valid hypothesis."

Theo paused before giving me some uninvited, but not unwelcome advice.

"Then go and meet with him, but don't let him get under your skin, or worse yet seduce you. You need to end it once and for all."

"As I said," I told him, "it's more complicated than that."

"No, Dad. It's not. The past few years I've been with you, you've told me I should always stand up for and defend myself, even when it's not easy. Did you mean that?"

"Of course I did," I said, getting ready to send my response to Finn.
