Captain's Log, Stardate 94377.9

"Galileo has just detected inbound warp signatures en route to our location. Analysis from our science officers was transmitted to Admiral Saalm who believes them to be of Romulan nature. And if what this future's reality holds true...we'll soon be facing down the enemy.

"The last time I was in combat was against the Ferengi while investigating =REDACTED=. Their heavy cruiser - a D'Kora-class marauder - was more than a match for this small science vessel. If it hadn't been for the arrival of Captain KehG and his crew, we wouldn't have survived the encounter as little more than slave property to be traded among the Beta Quadrant's underground markets. I...have come to realize that our fates are not always in our own hands, as much as we desire to believe. Chance, circumstance and good fortune appear to have benefited myself and this crew in the past, but can we count on the same to happen now? Here, in this future reality?

"Earth's ancient history and greatest philosophers were inherently guided by a sense of moral credence. A belief. A faith in something greater than themselves. A...perception of reality which transcended religion and gave them confidence that the greater hierarchy of the universe would somehow work itself out and reward mankind for its moral purity. But our ancient history is also cruel and full of death and destruction over trivial nation-state matters, battles for sea supremacy, and global influence...which all culminated in our third world war.

"That war, which killed a third of Earth's population, was our darkest era. Yet in the aftermath, those years became our greatest achievements which led to First Contact and ushered in a new era for humanity. And the rest? Our history and that of the Federation speaks for itself. What we've achieved as a civilization is so profound that I can't bear the thought of its collapse. All of our advancements in science, technology and math; the historians, anthropologists and artists who were able to uncover great lost civilizations then study their histories and recreate them; all of the new species and friends we've met and those we've yet to encounter...

"If we must fight for this, then we will fight. Not only to protect our future sister ship and its crew, but for the Federation.

"Computer, end log."
