Captain's Log, Stardate 69369.4

"Galileo's repair and resupply evolution is complete. Despite remaining understaffed, both Operations and Engineering departments were able to prioritize their work to accomplish their tasks in a tight window. Maybe my initial concerns about their work ethic were misguided, and perhaps going forward, a heavier routine maintenance cycle will keep them mentally stimulated and engaged. I've scheduled a full systems test for 1200 tomorrow and a small hop around the solar system. If all primary, secondary and auxiliary functions are in the green, the ship'll be ready to deploy when Command eventually sends us our new orders.

"Personnel recruitment is moving slowly but two new officers recently arrived for duty - Lieutenant Vala and Ensign M'Lyr'Zor. With all the various 1st Fleet starships in this sector vying for resources from the small pool Starfleet sends us every few weeks, it'll take months for the necessary assets to arrive that we require for our mission. I think Command doesn't fully understand our situation out here, or maybe worse, that they do but are too preoccupied with diplomatic appearances rather than operational efficiency.

"Most of our 1st Fleet assets are currently in transit to Starbase 82 near the Gorn Hegemony's border. I don't have access to the full intelligence records to postulate the exact reason, but it's no secret within the admiralty that the Klingon Empire's been coveting Gorn territory for almost a decade with ambitions to conquer and expand their galactic influence. The Federation's already engaged in several cold wars with the Klingons over the last two centuries but this time...it feels different. Chancellor Martok was once an ally to our government but that was decades ago. He's become disillusioned by Starfleet's response to the Hobus crisis and now - if the reports are to be believed - feeble in is older age.

"In the meantime, Galileo will stand ready to continue to explore and investigate whenever the order comes through. We'll do our duty as a science vessel and leave force projection to the heavy cruisers. Theirs isn't a job I envy.

"Computer, end log."
