Are we there yet?

[ON]

Sera sat placidly in the jump seat that she had ‘claimed’ for the duration of her journey to USS Galileo . She had been quiet for most of the tedious voyage, preferring the solitude over engaging with the two pilots of this transport vessel. She spent her time with a data padd in her hand, going over the vast amounts of data on the new ship she was to be stationed on. It had helped pass the time, for the first few weeks. However, time had dragged on; and Sera was almost willing to say aloud that she was ready for this voyage to be over.

“Oy! We’re comin’ out of warp and will arrive…uh…presently!” The pilot’s voice suddenly echoed out from the cockpit of the ship.

She then heard an exchange between the pilot and co-pilot which sounded a lot like…bickering.

“Presently?! Who says presently, Nikau?!”

Nikau whispered harshly back. “I don’t know exactly how long, Carver – Vulcans are sticklers for numbers!”

Sera took a measured breath and closed her eyes as she returned the padd back to the pocket she had just pulled it from. Oh yes…a stickler for numbers. She had excellent hearing too but deigned to not comment on the fact that she could hear their entire hushed conversation.

While her eyes were closed, she felt the ship shift out of warp, secretly basking in the physical sensation of the inertial dampeners kicking in. Despite feeling that stomach dropping sensation numerous times since leaving Vulcan, Sera never tired of it.

Nikau hailed the ship and began engaging with Quarterdeck officer on duty requesting permission to dock. Knowing the two crew members would be busy and less likely to pepper her with questions she had no desire to answer, Sera got up from her seat and walked to the front of the shuttle and looked over the heads of the pilot and co-pilot at the vessel taking up the entire field of vision.

USS Galileo. Her next duty assignment…her new home. Sera took it all in, committing the sight to her memory. Satisfied, Sera turned back around, and began weaving through the narrow walkway created from stacked cargo crates back to her jump seat, slid her hand into the straps of seabag, and patiently waited for the order to disembark.

Slinging her seabag over her shoulder, Sera stepped out of the shuttle onto the decking of the USS Galileo. She took in the mild vibrations through the soles of her boots for a moment, familiarizing herself with the feeling. Every ship had its own ‘heartbeat’ as it were, and although irrational, Sera wanted nothing more than to remove her boots and let this ship’s ‘song’ permeate her being.

The co-pilot’s boisterous voice broke through her attempt at waxing poetic.

“Good luck, Ensign!” Carter called to her, with Nikau’s voice chiming in right behind his, “Oh ya, break a leg!”

Sera looked over her shoulder with a raised brow as she heard Carter’s harsh rebuke to his colleague. “You just told a Vulcan to break a leg?! What rock did you crawl out from under?!”

Figuring now was a good a time as any, She walked away from the two who were still bickering to one another, and strode purposefully away – finally aboard, and ready to report for duty.
