Captain's Log, Stardate 69367.6

"With Galileo back at Regula I for repairs and resupply, I find myself reflecting more and more on the away teams' Cold Station 31 after-action reports. The two recovered scientists -- Quil and Mulder -- remain tight-lipped about the intricacies of their research, much to my frustration. Several members of the crew were shaken by what they witnessed there, including Ullswater and Darius who suffered some form of psychological breakdown after returning to the ship. In addition, Lieutenant Karras has requested a transfer to Regula I due to reasons I suspect are related to trauma he experienced within the facility.

"This entire investigation was perilous and despite achieving our ordered objectives, I feel...as if it wasn't a success. My abduction by the Ferengi, Ensign Mimi's enraged combat with Captain KehG and his subsequent murder in our sickbay, the crew's declining mental health...it feels as if I've been behind the curve throughout the last three weeks. Reactive instead of proactive. This isn't what I expected from my first temporary command assignment.

"And now, as if Command decided to reward me for these 'successes', I've just been permanently transferred to Galileo as its new commanding officer. I...struggled to feel joy for this promotion at first. Becoming a starship captain is a privilege, of course, and I'm grateful for the opportunity and trust Starfleet's put in me. But this ship - its mission profile and crew - are still foreign to me. I never considered myself an officer who cares much for the intricacies of scientific research and discovery. Not that I don't appreciate the importance and benefits it provides the Federation, but I chose the command track for a reason at the Academy. And until two weeks ago, I'd never served aboard a dedicated science vessel.

"But Galileo's my new permanent home now. She's a fine ship and the crew, while lacking personal fortitude at times, is composed of competent officers, NCOs and civilians. It'll take some continued work to build synergy and get them accustomed to my command style but they'll come around...sooner rather than later I hope. I've scheduled a special all-hands dinner for 1700 this evening; an event I hope will show them my appreciation for their work and begin my tenure as their captain on the correct foot.

"Computer, end log."
