"Once there were two friends and one day while on the beach, the two got into an argument. One slapped the other one. That one wrote on the sand: Today my friend slapped me." Later they went on and the girl that had been slapped got stuck in a bit of quicksand. Her friend quickly helped her out. She then carved on a stone: Today my friend saved me.

Her friend inquired about why she had done such a thing.

The friend replied "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where waves of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wave can ever erase it."
