Captain's Log, Stardate 69347.8

"Galileo arrived at Cold Station 31's location approximately 2.2 hours ago. Two shuttlecraft away teams each composed of five personnel were deployed to the facility and we currently await their arrival and subsequent status report. In the interim, we've returned to warp and are circling the surrounding sub-sector in an attempt to create a diversion for any unknown contacts following our warp trail. The secrecy of this mission remains paramount.

"The unknown contact designated 'friend' has not been detected within the last 66 hours. There have been no latent sensor readings or communications intercepts. It seems...it's turned into a ghost. I should feel relief but instead I'm wary. What we can't see doesn't simply cease to exist. I'm not comfortable operating in the absence of local intelligence.

"With Commanders Blake and Warraquim deployed, Lieutenant Rice has become my acting first officer. She's young and lacks experience in the Command department, but she has potential. Security officers share many similar traits; non-aversion to danger; the ability to make sacrifices; knowledge of the personnel they work with; and an up-tempo work ethic. I'm confident she'll perform well in whatever circumstances we face.

"On a personal note, the ship's officer corps hasn't been responding as expected to my daily PT routine. They should have bonded and improved by now, but instead I still sense resentment and disdain for having to perform such a basic task as exercising. There are fine crew members aboard this ship but their attitudes require readjustment and will trickle down to the enlisted personnel. Maybe an even firmer approach will finally yield positive results.

"End log."
