Personal Log

I’ve recently been reading about some of the possible new First Contact situations. These are worlds that are at the threshold of reaching to the stars. They are being closely observed by Federation researchers. Each society is different, in their own way.

One of the society of humanoids, the Cardarins, are quite sad, in my opinion. It seems that during the last five years or so of observation, the observers have come to understand that the Cardarin society seem to be striving for ‘Perfection’ in most all that they do. Physically striving to be healthy, mentally striving to understand the physical world around them, and spiritually practicing a religion of encouragement and inclusivity. But somehow they are missing the mark.

It seems like a perfect society, everyone is strong and healthy. Every individual is helped to find their best ability and to be accomplished, to provide something to add to their society. There are no vagrants, no homeless, no violence, no apparent criminal activity of any kind.

Yet, details have just recently come to light that much of this is because of a way of illuminating issues before they happen. By ‘discarding’ that for which they have no desire. It has been learned that if an expectant child does not meet the desired standards, then the pregnancy is terminated, ‘for the benefit of the whole of society’. Another term used is ‘the Ceasing of Life’, but they do not call it killing. There is no violence in the act. It seems to be a term used quite often in this world. The numbers of the ‘the ceasing of life’ is in the millions per year.

To me, it boggles the mind that a society like this would murder millions of their own unborn children, because they think that they might be inferior in some small way. I truly hope that the Cardarins never become part of the Federation until they can learn to have compassion for things, and understand that diversity provides opportunities.
