ON:

Evelyn sighed as she just signed off on her personal log. She adjusted on the bed, taking a pillow and placing it behind her back. She wondered how many times they've had guests sleep over in this room. She paused and stared up into the ceiling, hoping sleep would soon claim her.

Luciana

The name echoed in her mind. Luciana is an El-Aurian refugee, much like Evelyn, however she had a very different aspect to her than conventional El-Aurians. The six hundred year old woman spends most of her life outside of traditions and customs they both should share as a people. In fact, Luciana was more of her own person, and when she heard of El-Auria's fate, Evelyn remembered how she merely shrugged her shoulders, "It was our time." She had stated simply. Through the years their relationship went from acquaintances, guardian-child, to that of siblings today. Evelyn's personal view, Lucia was a distant cousin who was more like a sister.

She recalled the last time she sought her guidance; about thirty years ago;

Evelyn was feeling sorry for herself, her career at the Academy stalled and she wasn't sure she could continue on this path any longer. In fact she felt as if her life had stalled completely.

"This seat taken?" she asked.

Evelyn's thoughts were interrupted as she looked up at Luciana. She shifted on the stool and gave her friend a weak smile. "No, go ahead." Eve then finished her drink and ordered another round.

"Evelyn are you still thinking about your dead husband?" Luciana asked softly, taking the seat across from her.

"No...and thanks for the subtle remark." Eve replied, sighing. "Is this what life is meant to be? Boring careers, rediscovering grade school mysteries and death?"

Luciana just felt compassion for her friend, "You're still young, don't worry life improves with age." Luciana said, trying to give her hope.

Evelyn hmphed, "That's doubtful."

"Doubtful?" Luciana repeated the name. "What happened to that confident young El-Aurian that I met decades ago, proud of her uniform proud of all the things you're calling boring today?"

"I don't even know if that was really me." Evelyn admitted. "I was naive then."

Luciana really feels bad for her; "Oh, Evelyn..." Luciana had to do something... at least take her mind of things; "...follow me." She finished. Luciana got up and waited for Evelyn to do the same.

"Where are we going?" Evelyn raised an eyebrow in an almost Vulcan manner.

"Just follow me." Luciana said, leading her out of the lounge.

Evelyn finished her drinks and got up to follow her friend, more like dragged out by the arm.

Luciana led Evelyn to the holodeck, "It is time to get your mind off of this." Luciana tapped the wall console and the doors opened. Luciana gestured her hand for Evelyn to walk in first.

Evelyn walked into the holodeck, wondering what Luciana had in mind. Hands on her hips, Evelyn faced Luciana. "Ok, what's going on?"

Luciana didn't answer her but just said, "Computer, run program." Suddenly the simulation started.

Suddenly, the room darkened and people were standing all around them. Music could be heard as well as the crooning of Lucia's idol. "Really Lucia?"

"Now now, Eve, don't be a pain, I think I remember saying you were fond of him, fond of the KING!" Luciana smiled, saying it loud enough for Evelyn to hear her.

"I don't think I drank enough for this, Luciana!!" Evelyn shouted back over the music.

"Come on, let's get closer to the see!" With that, the elder El-Aurian grabbed Evelyns's hand and pulled them through the crowd up to the edge of the se. There, they saw the "King" in all his glory, singing his heart out.

Evelyn saw the excitement and joy in Luciana's face and the end of her own lips curled up, "You do realize he's dead right?!" she shouted.

Lucia rolled her eyes. "Girl, any colder you'd be an icicle!" she chuckled and grabbed at the bottom of Eve's shirt ripping off a piece.

"Hey!" Eve shouted, chuckling slightly.

Lucia whispered "You'll thank me later!" and then waved the fabric at the holo-Elvis as he sang. "Yo! Elvis! Got your Teddy Bear right here!" she shouted.

Eve giggled at her friend, and when the hot white, spotlight landed on the two of them, she started laughing harder. "You always get what you want don't you, Lucia?"

Lucia merely wink, "You're smiling aren't ya?"

Eve burst out laughing, recalling the memory and the night of the two of them singing on stage with the holographic Elvis. "She always was the wild one." Eve muttered to herself. "I wonder if she is still on Earth..."

Eve made her way to the computer terminal in the bedroom, grateful for the room being equipped with one. Her fingers active the console and typed on the keys and brought up the communication relay. Entering the coordinates for her transmission manually she waited for it to be received and accepted. "Please, be home..." she muttered.

No sooner did she plead to herself, the Federation logo was replaced by the image of a young brunette. "I had a hunch it was going to be you, Eve." The female chuckled.

Hearing the familiar voice and her other name being spoken, Evelyn grinned widely, "Well our hunches are typically right on the money, aren't they, Lucia?"

"Well, usually they are but I admit, getting a call from Mars surprised me. So what did you do this time? Hacked into a Cardassian spy satellite and bounced the signal through various other means in order to get this call through? Always off on some distance shore." The woman smiled.

"Actually," Evelyn grinned, "I'm on Mars now."

Lucia's eyes widen with shock and smile faded, "And you never told me?! Eve get your ass over here on Earth now! And don't even try saying no."

The transmission ended before Evelyn could even respond, leaning back in the chair, her mind fixated at the short conversation. "She always gets what she wants."

Knowing she was expecting her, Evelyn rose up from her seat, and casually made her way towards the door. It was well into the night and she assumed the three Hollidays were asleep. She relearned the rule to never assume when she was closing in on the front door and heard voices in the adjacent room.

"So you've become a big-wig in a military organization - doing well at something I don't approve of doesn't really distinguish itself as an achievement you know?"

"That so-called military organization is the reason you're still alive right now Dad. If I hadn't joined up and wasn't serving on Galileo then the good Lieutenant in the room down the hall never would have given me the medication I needed to save you."

Evelyn quietly returned to her quarters, not wanting to interrupt John's much needed conversation with his father. She thought it over and her eyes returned to the console. As she approached the terminal she cracked her fingers, and let them dance over the smooth glass controls. The image of Starbase 1 of Utopia Planitia appeared. A small smile appeared on Eve's lips as she went through different levels of security codes and accessed the station's transporter system. She tapped the console once and soon her body was engulfed by shimmering lights.
